Bear Engineers, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented employee to assist with building envelope consulting, field investigations, construction observations, testing, and AutoCAD drafting. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical mindset, be comfortable working in the field and in an office environment, and be interested in developing expertise in roofing, waterproofing, exterior walls, windows, doors, and building enclosure systems.
This position is well suited for someone with experience in construction, architecture, engineering, drafting, roofing, or building inspections who is looking to grow into a technical consulting role.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:
- Assist with roof inspections, building envelope evaluations, leak investigations, and condition assessments.
- Perform field observations during roofing, waterproofing, masonry, wall cladding, window, door, and exterior repair projects.
- Assist with water infiltration testing, air infiltration testing, roof moisture observations, and other field testing procedures.
- Prepare field notes, photographs, sketches, and written observations for engineering reports.
- Assist with preparation of technical reports, repair recommendations, construction documents, and project specifications.
- Prepare AutoCAD drawings, details, roof plans, elevation markups, and repair sketches.
- Review construction work for general conformance with project documents and manufacturer requirements.
- Communicate professionally with property managers, contractors, owners, architects, and engineers.
- Assist with project documentation, photo logs, submittal reviews, and closeout documentation.
- Travel to local and regional project sites as needed.
Desired Qualifications
The preferred candidate will have some or all of the following qualifications:
- Experience with AutoCAD and preparation of construction drawings or technical details.
- Experience with roofing, waterproofing, exterior wall systems, windows, doors, or general construction.
- Registered Roof Observer IIBEC credential preferred.
- Candidate who is not currently a Registered Roof Observer but is willing and able to pursue certification will be considered.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and manufacturer details.
- Strong written communication skills and ability to prepare clear field notes and reports.
- Comfortable working on roofs, ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and active construction sites.
- Good judgment, attention to detail, and ability to observe and document construction conditions accurately.
- Basic understanding of building envelope systems, roof assemblies, drainage, flashing, sealants, masonry, cladding, and fenestration systems is preferred.
- Engineering, architecture, construction management, building science, drafting, or related background is helpful but not necessarily required.

- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Certifications or Credentials
- IIBEC Registered Roof Observer, or willingness to pursue the credential.
- Experience with Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, Excel, and field reporting software.
About the Work
Bear Engineers performs building envelope consulting and structural engineering services for commercial, multifamily, and institutional projects. Our work includes roof replacement design, exterior wall evaluations, water intrusion investigations, window and door testing, construction phase consulting, structural observations, forensic evaluations, and repair recommendations.
This role will involve a mix of field work, office work, drafting, report preparation, client communication, and technical learning. The selected candidate should be interested in hands-on investigation, practical construction problem solving, and long-term professional development in the building envelope industry.
Pay: $62,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
