As a senior piping designer, the successful candidate must be competent in preparing drawings and sketches using CAD workstations, appropriate design criteria, and technical manuals often working closely with engineers to coordinate designs. The candidate integrates management skills with expert technical knowledge to identify technical requirements. He/she applies highest level of technical skills gained through extensive experience on a broad range of projects, anticipates complex technical issues, and identifies resources internal or external to the team who can resolve the issue(s). This position identifies opportunities to improve on the technical standards and specifications around which others operate and serves primarily as the technical supervisor for a designated subject area or project.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Extensive knowledge of the Piping and Plant layout with capabilities and the initiative to perform the following task while supervising, mentoring, and developing junior staff
- Provide accurate detail piping design per project requirement in accordance with scope, budget, and schedule as assigned by project lead
- Provide on-site field assistance as required per project assignment
- Plan, facilitate, or conduct 3D model design reviews
- Provide 2D or 3D design documents as required per project “list of deliverables”
- Check design documents for quality and accuracy
- Provide information for inter-discipline coordination
- Participate in project coordination meetings
- Make recommendations to improve department workflow process
- Develop department standards, including templates and design guides
- Supervise, coordinate, manage, design work for multiple projects of small to medium sizes in parallel
- Provide direction and day-to-day oversight of assigned subordinates
- Provide man-hour engineering estimates
- Mentor others within piping department
- Responsible and accountable for the performance of assigned designers / drafters
- Generate “Engineering Change Notice“ before the start of all out of scope work
- Develop piping construction scope of work document
- Ownership of project, including quality, budget, and schedule
- Review of vendor drawings
Qualifications/Qualities:
- AA/AS in drafting/design or BS in an engineering curriculum or drafting/design with 8+ years’ experience, in lieu of a degree 15+ years of relevant experience
- The ability to proactively resolve technical design problems
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to communicate detailed information to both client and project team
- Extensive knowledge of 2D and 3D AutoCAD software. AutoCAD Plant 3D experience is a plus
- Candidate should possess knowledge of applicable codes such as ASME and API
- Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
- US Citizenship and Valid US Driver’s License
Typical duties will be performed in an office environment with occasional field trips to operating facilities or construction sites. This requires ability to sit for extended periods of time, computer data entry, normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting 25 pounds may be required.

Salary and benefits negotiable based on level of experience and the agreed upon responsibilities.
Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
