The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is seeking to hire two (2) student assistants, in a learning capacity, to work under the close supervision of a Supervising Transportation Engineer in the Department of Transportation Headquarters Asset Management.
In a learning capacity, the student assistants will support implementation of asset management and will be focusing on assisting staff to improve data for business decisions and assisting in the development of tools to improve asset management business processes. In a learning capacity, the student assistants will also assist in one or more of a variety of technical and data-related projects, including but not limited to: evaluation of transportation data, evaluation of project, inventory, performance data, and supporting geographic information systems (GIS) analyses.
Caltrans is working to continue the implementation of asset management, which requires a variety of data-related tasks. Asset management provides exposure across all districts and programs in the Department and a foundation for future employment in Caltrans.

Prerequisites
Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (fall, spring, and winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

Work Schedule
F lexible workdays and work hours, Monday – Friday, between 8 AM – 5 PM. Final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).
Compensation
$18.28 to $28.16 per hour.
