Job Summary
The Food Service Manager is responsible for leading and supporting the food service sales team to achieve sales objectives while delivering exceptional service to customers. This role provides day-to-day direction, coaching, and accountability for sales representatives, monitors performance metrics, and works collaboratively across departments to support company growth and customer satisfaction.
The Food Service Manager serves as a key liaison between customers, the sales team, and internal departments to ensure customer needs are met and business goals are achieved. This position reports to the Director of Sales.
The ideal candidate will have experience in food service sales, team leadership, customer relationship management, and the ability to use data and analytics to drive sales performance and continuous improvement. This position requires regular travel to customer locations, distributor partners, industry events, and field visits with sales representatives, with travel expected to average up to 50% of the time.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, motivate, and develop the food service sales team.
- Establish sales goals and monitor progress toward achieving departmental objectives.
- Develop, maintain, and grow relationships with foodservice distributors, brokers, and key customer accounts.
- Analyze sales data and identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
- Support the implementation of sales strategies and ensure accountability for results.
- Assist in developing and managing departmental budgets and expenses.
- Coordinate and deliver sales training and development programs.
- Prepare and distribute departmental performance reports.
- Conduct field visits with sales representatives to provide coaching, feedback, and support.
- Resolve customer concerns and escalate issues as necessary.
- Ensure professional and timely communication with customers.
- Assist with customer presentations, product specifications, and promotional initiatives.
- Collaborate with Operations, Quality Assurance, Customer Service, and other departments to support customer needs and business objectives.
- Support new business development efforts and customer retention initiatives.
- Manage broker relationships and develop new sales territories.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of food service sales and/or food manufacturing experience, including experience managing distributor relationships and key customer accounts.
- Experience selling through broadline foodservice distributors such as Sysco, US Foods, Performance Food Group, or similar national/regional distributors preferred.
- Experience in meat processing, protein products, prepared foods, or food manufacturing environments preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret sales data and translate findings into actionable plans.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and achieve performance goals.
- Proven ability to develop and motivate employees.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word) required.
- Experience using CRM and sales management platforms (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar systems) preferred.
- Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including customer visits, distributor meetings, trade shows, and sales team field coaching.
