Lead Safety on a Major Transmission Construction Project
We are supporting delivery of a large-scale transmission construction project in North Platte, Nebraska, and are seeking a Project Health & Safety Manager to serve as the senior HSE authority on-site.
This is a field-driven construction safety leadership role requiring daily engagement with crews, foremen, subcontractors, and active work fronts in a high-risk transmission construction environment.
The successful candidate will lead safety execution across multiple crews and contractors, integrating safety directly into construction planning, field operations, and project delivery.
This role is best suited to experienced construction HSE professionals who are comfortable operating in dynamic, fast-paced project environments and leading safety directly in the field.
Candidates with primarily manufacturing, warehouse, or compliance-only safety backgrounds may not be suited to this role.

Role Overview
Reporting to the Sr. Project Manager, with a functional reporting relationship to the Director of Safety Operations, the Project Health & Safety Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of project HSE execution.
This role operates as the lead field safety authority on the project and works directly with Construction Management, supervisors, craft personnel, subcontractors, and client representatives to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient project execution.
The successful candidate must be comfortable operating in active construction environments with multiple simultaneous work fronts and high-risk construction activities.
Key Responsibilities
Field Safety Leadership & Execution
- Lead execution of the project Health & Safety Management Plan
- Maintain a strong daily field presence across crews and work fronts
- Integrate safety directly into construction planning and sequencing
- Support field leadership in proactive hazard identification and mitigation
- Lead field audits, inspections, observations, and corrective action follow-up
- Hold contractors and field leadership accountable to project safety expectations and stop-work requirements where necessary
High-Risk Work Oversight
- Oversee high-risk construction activities including:
- energized work
- excavation and trenching
- lifting and rigging
- confined space entry
- work at heights
- lockout/tagout (LOTO)
- heavy equipment operations
- Review and support JSAs, permitting, and work planning activities
- Ensure appropriate controls are implemented prior to work execution
Incident Management & Compliance
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, client requirements, and company standards
- Track project safety metrics, observations, and trends
- Ensure timely incident response and accurate project safety reporting
Team Leadership & Contractor Coordination
- Lead, mentor, and support site-based HSE personnel
- Coordinate with Project Management, Construction Management, and subcontractors to reinforce project safety expectations
- Facilitate orientations, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and field coaching
- Support development of a strong, proactive project safety culture
What We Are Looking For
Experience & Background
- 5+ years of field-based HSE leadership supporting active construction environments such as:
- transmission
- utility
- industrial
- heavy civil
- pipeline
- oil & gas construction
- large-scale energy infrastructure
- Experience leading HSE in multi-contractor, high-risk construction environments with multiple active work fronts
- Experience directly overseeing field safety execution on active construction sites
- Prior transmission, utility, substation, or energized infrastructure experience strongly preferred
- Prior experience as a Lineman or Apprentice is considered an asset
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or related field (or equivalent field experience)
- BCSP, CHST, CSP, CUSP, EM-385, NFPA 70E, or similar certifications considered an asset
Skills & Capabilities
- Strong field leadership and contractor management capability
- Ability to influence crews, foremen, and construction leadership in active project environments
- Strong hazard recognition and incident investigation capability
- Comfortable operating in fast-paced construction environments with changing conditions
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Experience using digital project and safety systems (e.g. Procore, SiteDocs, reporting platforms)
Work Conditions & Requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- Pre-employment and project-specific drug and alcohol testing required
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required
- Background screening required
This is a site-based rotational position:
- Rotation: 3 weeks on / 1 week off
- Schedule: 6 days on / 1 day off (Sundays)
- Workdays: 10-hour days
Rotation and schedule may adjust based on project requirements and critical work phases.
