Job Summary
Immediate Hire: Imperial Management Group (IMG) is seeking a highly skilled, results-oriented Lead Proposal & Grant Writer to join our competitive team on a six-month, pay-for-performance contract. This is a 1099 contract position. This critical role involves serving as an Account Manager and Lead Point of Contact (POC) for our assigned accounts, ensuring we secure high-value funding from government agencies, foundations, and private funders. The successful candidate will quarterback the entire proposal lifecycle, from strategic research and team coordination to final submission and post-award reporting. Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Project Management 30%: Serve as the Lead Point of Contact and lead writer for assigned accounts. Oversee and coordinate all account activities, ensuring project milestones are met and enforcing deadlines across complex, concurrent proposal projects.
- Proposal Development & Strategy 60%: Research, draft, and submit compelling and persuasive proposals, funding requests, and letters of inquiry tailored to the specific requirements of government RFPs, NOFOs, foundation guidelines, and private funders. Translate complex technical solutions and project goals into clear, well-structured narratives.
- Compliance & Quality Assurance 5%: Ensure proposal integrity and strict adherence to all solicitation requirements, guidelines, and mandates. Collaborate with subject matter experts (SME) and finance teams to gather data, develop comprehensive budgets, and compile all necessary supporting documentation (attachments, certifications, MOA).
- Research & Reporting 5%: Conduct thorough research to identify and analyze potential grant opportunities. Assist in smooth transition during the post-award phase.
Compensation & Contract Details
This is a minimum six-month contract (with potential for extension based on performance) on a strict pay-for-performance basis. Compensation is tied directly to the number of submissions and submission type (e.g. state, federal , local, etc.), resulting in an anticipated monthly pay range of $1,200 to $2,000.

Mandatory Qualifications:
- Proven Track Record: Candidates must have a proven track record of winning RFPs or grants of $2 million or more over the past four years, with recent successes within the last 18 months.
Experience & Education:
- Minimum 5+ years of proven experience in proposal writing, technical writing, or grant writing, with a strong preference for experience securing funding from federal/government, foundation, and private sources.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, IT, Digital Media, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience responding to Federal, State, and Local government RFPs.
Skills:
- AI Innovation Proficiency: Must be highly skilled in AI innovation for writing, sourcing, and development using tools like Gemini, Claude, or ChatGPT. Speed in development is crucial, but all work must be executed with impeccable accuracy and rigorous checks and balances.
- Exceptional ability to write persuasively, clearly, and concisely, with superb grammar and editing skills.
- Outstanding organizational, time management, and project management skills to manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously.
- Meticulous attention to detail, critical for ensuring compliance with complex funder and solicitation requirements.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to assess grant eligibility and align proposals with funder priorities.
- Familiarity with budget development, financial reporting, and the federal compliance landscape (e.g., NOFOs, FAR) is highly desirable.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
- Technology: Proficiency in Google Workspace suite, proposal management software (e.g., grants.gov, Foundation Directory), and online collaboration tools.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of facilities maintenance and services, pricing out jobs, developing budgets based on RFP requirements, familiar with government language and standards.
- Knowledge of geographical areas and funding systems and cycles in Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey.
