Qualifications:
1. Models Christ-like behaviors in decision-making, interactions, and personal spiritual growth. The principal of this school accepts without reservation the canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired and written Word of God.
2. Has a bachelor’s level degree in education, or is actively involved in a program leading to such. 1-3 years of teaching experience preferred but willing to work with alternative certification paths or have a successful student teaching internship experience.
3. Has experience or is willing to work with young children.
4. Has experience in curriculum development and lesson planning.
5. Works well doctrinally with the Pastor and will seek the counsel of the pastor for spiritual advice and will strive to maintain, manage, and lead students in accordance with the Word of God.
6. Is an active member of a Christian congregation.
7. Holds a teaching certificate for the State of Michigan or enrolled in a program approved by the State of Michigan.
Desirable Skills:
1. Demonstrates proficient computer and technical skills.
2. Has a complete and current understanding of K-8 education.
3. Works well with a diverse or multi-disciplinary group to achieve a common goal.
4. Demonstrates organizational skills throughout many areas but is also flexible.
Purpose:
To foster an environment that facilitates classes at TLS shall be taught in harmony with the Lutheran Doctrine and that students receive the highest quality education possible in all subjects.
Primary Responsibilities
- Teach classes for the time agreed to by the annual contract.
- Implement the TLS curriculum as approved by the board of education.
- Prepare progress reports and attendance records for students, keeping copies in their students’ files.
- Arrange parent-teacher conferences.
- Attending and actively supporting TLC events.
- Attending IEP and 504 meetings for students in your class.
- Document any student incident (behavioral, illness, injury, etc.) and facilitate special attention as needed.
- Report any cases of suspected or current documented cases of child abuse or criminal activity to the proper authorities as per Michigan state statutes.
- Provide for spiritual, social, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs of children.
- Give direction and purpose to the activities of the classroom assistant, if one is provided.
- Facilitate assessment of students regularly, both formally and informally, to determine if their needs are being met.
- Maintain a well-managed, clean, and orderly classroom environment. This means clutter is limited, sanitization is conducted regularly, and supplies are cleaned up at the end of each workday.
- Regularly communicate with parents through the current approved method.
- Join professional organizations as deemed necessary to maintain accreditation status.
- Other duties as deemed necessary by the School Board.
- Maintain a neat, professional, and clean appearance.
- Certified in the practices of CPR and first aid.
- Complete additional tasks that may arise from time to time.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement policies as determined by the School Board.
- Possesses the ability to keep certain information confidential.
- Possesses the ability to establish and maintain communication with colleagues and families in both oral and written forms.
- Demonstrates fair discipline with student(s) in accordance with school policies and procedures.
- Facilitate smooth resolution of controversies by using Lutheran Doctrine and Christian Love. By following and enforcing the Conflict Resolution Policy in the employee handbook.
- Makes significant decisions within the limits of the established overall school policy but is open to changes and welcomes a challenge.
- Has the ability to motivate students towards a common goal.
- Other duties as assigned by the principal.
