This posting is for a full-time 40-hrs per week Library Assistant position, assigned to the Library.
The Library Assistant reports directly to the Director of Young Library and works closely with students, faculty, administration, and staff.

The Library Assistant position has the following duties and responsibilities:
- Assist in the daily affairs and service requirements of Young Library.
- Assist in the oversight of work study student personnel, assist in the interpretation of policy and routines, and in the provision of service to the patrons of Young Library.
- Must be available to work some evening and weekend hours.
- Processing of Inter-Library Loan Requests. This includes verifying bibliography information; identifying sources of procurement; communicating of said requests; notifying of received materials; assembling of statistics; managing of all reports.
- Must be available to work 40 hrs./ week for 12 months.
- Be willing to continue professional development in the discipline.
- Provide oversight on project assignments.
- Work alongside the Director of the Library to ensure that the Library complies with all accreditation standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
- Maintain and comply with all policies, rules, and regulations included in the KCU Staff Handbook.
- Processing of requests for items to be placed on Reserve.
- Responsible for clerical management of Serials title inventory.
- Assist in the compilation of daily reports and records.
- Provide assistance to library patrons with library technology equipment and programs.
- Additional duties that may be required or assigned.
The individual holding this position must possess the required knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rates, percentages, and ratios.
- Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions, correspondence, memos, reports, state licensing forms, evaluation forms and assessments, professional journals, technical procedures, and various governmental information reporting forms and papers.
- Ability to clearly write, in English, complex correspondence, memos, and reports.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small or large group situations, both personally and virtually.
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to define problems, evaluate, and make independent decisions based on experience or knowledge with supervision.
- Ability to use computer technology at an advanced level.
- Sufficient manual dexterity in at least one hand to be able to operate all electronic and computer equipment (keyboards, calculators, printers, etc.), and manually complete paperwork such as signing completed reports.
- Ability to sit and/or stand and continuously perform essential job functions for an eight (8) hour day.
- Ability to grasp and lift or otherwise move goods weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to learn and perform all essential job functions accurately with minimal direct supervision, within three (3) months after the employee begins work.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
Current university operations and building designs ordinarily require the individual to reach, bend, lift, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and perform similar physical functions while doing the work of a staff member (e.g. looking for files, carrying files and other reports, and loading paper into printers). All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without a significant risk of injury, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above.
- Education: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to two (2) years that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Four-year Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of experience performing similar tasks is required.

- Other Preferences: Other preferences will be given for special communication skills relevant to student needs (e.g. translation of particular languages such as Spanish, French, Ukraine, or interpretation of American Sign language or similar system).
- Starting date is July 1, 2026.
- Position is full-time on a twelve-month basis.
