Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Dairy Operations Manager to join our leadership team and help drive the continued growth of a large, family-run dairy operation in Dalhart, Texas. This is a unique opportunity for an ambitious professional who wants to stay invested in day-to-day production while also becoming deeply involved in business operations, strategic planning, people leadership, and future expansion initiatives.
The ideal candidate is a big-picture thinker who can effectively balance daily operational needs while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, profitability, and long-term growth. Dairy experience is beneficial, but we place a higher value on strong business acumen, analytical skills, leadership ability, and the desire to take ownership of responsibilities.
About the Company
Our family-owned dairy operation employs approximately 280 team members and manages more than 94,000 head of cattle across multiple facilities. We currently operate three dairy barns and a rapidly growing calf-raising division and a beef division, with plans for continued expansion and future growth opportunities.
As our business continues to evolve, we are intentionally building our next generation of leadership and looking for individuals who want to grow alongside the organization.
Key Responsibilities
· Manage people and coordinate teams to ensure daily work is completed effectively and on schedule.
· Support day-to-day dairy operations, including feeding, labor coordination, and troubleshooting operational issues.
· Help split responsibilities from the existing management team to improve efficiency and create capacity for expansion.
· Monitor reporting, analytics, and operational performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
· Contribute to feed purchasing and other business-related decision-making.
· Work closely with ownership and family leadership to strengthen management processes and support succession planning.
· Build relationships internally with employees and externally with customers and cattle-related contacts as needed.
· Bring a big-picture mindset while remaining willing to learn the operation from the ground up.
Qualifications
· Strong leadership ability with experience managing people and driving accountability.
· Business-minded and comfortable with numbers, reporting, and operational analysis.
· Open-minded, dependable, and able to work well within a family-run business environment.
· Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
· Willingness to be on-site and engaged in daily operations
· Spanish language skills are strongly preferred.
· Experience in dairy, beef, livestock, agriculture, or a similarl hands-on operational environment is helpful but not required.
· A proactive, ownership-oriented mindset with the ability to think independently and bring ideas to the table.
What Success Looks Like
Within the first 12 months, this person has become a trusted, independent leader who can manage people, keep daily operations moving, solve problems proactively, and reduce the day-to-day burden on ownership. They contribute ideas, improve coordination across the business, and help prepare the organization for future growth.
Ideal Candidate Profile
This role is best suited for someone who can think big picture while still being willing to roll up their sleeves and do whatever the operation requires. The ideal candidate understands that dairy is not a 9-to-5, Monday-through-Friday business and is ready to put in the work when and where it is needed. They can earn trust in a close-knit family business, lead people effectively, and make a meaningful impact in a growing agricultural enterprise. The right person does not need to be a traditional “cow person,” but must be smart, responsible, hardworking, and effective at managing people to get things done.
Compensation & Benefits
· Competitive salary depending on experience.
· Company-provided vehicle.
· Health insurance.
· 401(k) retirement plan.
· Housing assistance and relocation support available.
· Managerial flex time.
· Long-term profit-sharing opportunities.
· Significant growth and leadership development opportunities.
· Potential future ownership and executive leadership opportunities for the right candidate.
