Maintenance Planner I / II / III – Mining, Smelter & Industrial Operations

- $65,000-$120,000 base salary
- $11,500-$17,500 Annual Bonus

Position Summary
Support, coordinate & lead maintenance planning, scheduling & execution activities for mining, smelter & industrial operations. Partner with supervisors, maintenance teams, operations, engineering, supply chain personnel, contractors & vendors to ensure safe, efficient & cost-effective maintenance execution. Depending on level, responsibilities range from supporting maintenance planning activities to leading complex planning functions, shutdowns, forecasting efforts & planning teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, prioritize, monitor & analyze maintenance activities for assigned areas.
- Support supervisors through all phases of maintenance job preparation, execution & follow-up.
- Develop, maintain & adjust maintenance schedules within SAP & other maintenance management systems.
- Manage work orders, job plans, preventive maintenance programs & maintenance history records.
- Execute & maintain Runtime Forecasting processes & maintenance planning data accuracy.
- Participate in daily, weekly & monthly planning meetings to review maintenance priorities, schedules & resource requirements.
- Coordinate labor, materials, equipment, contractors & vendors to support maintenance activities.
- Support major shutdowns, outages, turnarounds & long-range maintenance planning efforts.
- Assist with maintenance budgeting, forecasting, KPI reporting & operational performance analysis.
- Coordinate inventory control, warehouse min/max levels, materials planning & supply chain activities.
- Prepare scopes of work, initiate material requests & support contractor management activities.
- Generate routine & ad hoc reports to support maintenance & operational decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental & operational standards.
- Support equipment reliability, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance & continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform field inspections to verify job readiness, resource availability, work quality & schedule compliance.
- Collaborate with maintenance, operations, engineering & supply chain teams to optimize maintenance performance.
Additional Planner III (Senior Planner) Responsibilities
- Lead complex maintenance planning, scheduling & shutdown activities.
- Provide mentorship, training & guidance to Planner I & Planner II personnel.
- Coordinate long-range maintenance strategies, resource allocation & major outage planning.
- Lead planning quality reviews, schedule optimization efforts & process improvement initiatives.
- Support maintenance budgeting, forecasting, KPI analysis & performance reporting.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for SAP PM, maintenance planning processes & scheduling best practices.
- May supervise planners, planning staff or contract planning resources as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Planner I
- High School diploma/GED & 4–6 years of maintenance planning, field maintenance or industrial operations experience; OR
- Associate degree in a technical field & 2–4 years of related experience; OR
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field & 1–2 years of related experience.
- Mechanical, Electrical, Welding or Diagnostic Maintenance background.
Planner II
- High School diploma/GED & 6–8 years of maintenance planning, field maintenance or industrial operations experience; OR
- Associate degree in a technical field & 4–6 years of related experience; OR
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field & 2–4 years of related experience.
- Mechanical, Electrical, Welding or Diagnostic Maintenance background.
Planner III (Senior Planner)
- High School diploma/GED & 8+ years of maintenance planning, field maintenance, industrial, mining or smelter operations experience, including 5+ years of leadership, supervisory or planner lead experience; OR
- Associate degree in a technical field & 6+ years of related maintenance, planning or industrial operations experience, including 3+ years of leadership, supervisory or planner lead experience; OR
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field & 4+ years of related maintenance, planning, industrial operations or supervisory experience.
- Mechanical, Electrical, Welding or Diagnostic Maintenance background.

- Experience with SAP PM or comparable maintenance management systems.
- Experience planning major shutdowns, outages or turnaround events.
- Supervisory or planner lead experience.
Work Environment
- Industrial mining, smelter, manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
- Regular field presence required to support maintenance planning & execution activities.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required.
- Ability to work rotating schedules, shift work, weekends or holidays as needed.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Must successfully complete required medical evaluations, training, drug/alcohol screening & other employment requirements.
