With Gresco's long history of serving electric utilities throughout the southeast, our Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) department supports customers in the same region and across the entire United States.

The UAS team works closely with our core utility customers in the southeast, while also partnering with utilities nationwide, including:

• Electric Cooperatives
• Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs)
• Municipal utilities and public power utilities
• Renewable energy organizations supporting hydro, solar, and wind

ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS

• Reports To: Associate Director, Support, UAS
• Reporting Jobs: None
• Contacts Inside: Executives, District Managers, Directors, various UAS employees, Information Technology, Marketing, Accounting, Product Team, warehouse operations, and various other Gresco employees.
• Contacts Outside: All personnel from Executive Leadership to Interns who may or may not be directly involved with UAS in utility & public safety organizations. Existing and new Gresco customers. Manufacturers of UAS and UAS-related products and software. Strategic industry partners.

PURPOSE

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain expert-level understanding of all UAS platforms, payloads, software tools, and related workflows supported by Gresco.
• Act as the technical point-of-contact for UAS Account Managers and Inside Sales, supporting customer needs analysis, solution design, and system recommendations.
• Support Level 1 and Level 2 UAS Technicians with escalated technical troubleshooting, flight testing, and repair validation.
• Develop and conduct internal and external product training on-site, remote, or via webinar—tailored to specific customer missions and industry use cases.
• Follow established safety and PPE protocols while representing the company in trainings and site visits.
• Assist with startup services, demonstrations, and strategic deployments for high-value customers.
• Develop and refine technical documentation for internal and customer-facing use (e.g., support articles, training guides, use-case workflows).
• Coordinate closely with UAS manufacturers to stay up to date on firmware, software, roadmap features, and support protocols.
• Contribute to evaluating and onboarding new platforms and emerging technologies into the product catalog.
• Participate in industry events, demos, and trade shows as subject matter expert.
• Serve as a resource in the quoting process for complex or integrated solutions that require technical expertise.
• Support ongoing refinement of service & support team processes and procedures in collaboration with leadership.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

NATURE AND SCOPE

The UAS Solutions Engineer is a senior technical resource within the service and support team, responsible for in-depth product knowledge, pre- and post-sale technical support, advanced troubleshooting, and customized training. This role supports both internal and external stakeholders, bridges knowledge between manufacturers and customers, and contributes to the successful deployment and ongoing utilization of UAS solutions.

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED (minimum required job-related knowledge):

• Associate degree in business management, aviation, engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification (or must obtain within 60 days).
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in the UAS industry, with a strong grasp of hardware and software systems.
• Demonstrated experience conducting technical training and product demonstrations.
• Strong understanding of UAS use in utility inspection, mapping, public safety, and infrastructure.
• Excellent communication, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across departments including sales, marketing, and operations.
• Passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint/OneDrive, and modern collaboration platforms.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with cross-functional team dynamics.
• Interest in emerging technologies, including a willingness to learn and apply AI tools to improve workflows and decision-making.

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, aviation, geospatial science, or related field.
• Level 1 or 2 Thermography, Flyability, Wingtra, or Skydio certifications.
• Familiarity with fleet management systems, mission planning software, and advanced data analysis tools.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is a remote position, with the flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States (lower 48 states), knowing that traveling across the nation is necessary. However, this role does require periodic travel to our UAS headquarters in Forsyth, Georgia for team collaboration, training, planning sessions, and in-person meetings. Responsibilities may require up to 50%-70% travel. Will require hours for work that can’t be accomplished during business hours. Last-minute requests, accuracy required for multiple tasks. Essential functions require lifting, carrying, walking, and standing for prolonged periods of time. Physical agility to lift required weight, lift horizontally and vertically, bend and stoop. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Lifting heavier material would require assistance from another employee. Ability to climb ladders and work at elevated heights.
