Role Overview
The Tactical SATCOM Operator supports SNAP / AN/TSC-198 terminals and other tactical SATCOM platforms in deployed environments. This role requires hands-on operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and network integration of tactical satellite systems, COMSEC equipment, and associated communications infrastructure.
You will ensure mission continuity for forward operators by maintaining reliable SATCOM connectivity, performing system checks, documenting configurations, and supporting end users during live operations.
Primary Responsibilities
SATCOM Operations

Operate and maintain SNAP / AN/TSC-198 terminals and associated baseband equipment.

Configure and troubleshoot:
-
Satellite modems (iDirect, LinkWay, Comtech, UHP, etc.)
-
Redundancy switches
-
Up/Down converters
-
HPAs, SSPAs, LNAs, LNBs
-
ACU / antenna motors
-
Support AVL, Cobham/TracStar, and other tactical auto-acquire antenna systems.
-
Perform satellite acquisition, optimization, and link troubleshooting.
-
Provide day-to-day SATCOM support to deployed end users.
-
Operate, troubleshoot, and sustain SNAP/198 terminals in field conditions.
-
Perform satellite acquisition, link establishment, and performance checks.
-
Maintain network connectivity, COMSEC readiness, and end-to-end terminal functionality.
Infrastructure & Power Systems
-
Manage waveguide assemblies (rigid, flex, elliptical) and IF cabling.
-
Operate and maintain Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and generators (as required).
-
Support hardline and RF routing in field environments.
TMDE & Documentation
-
Use TMDE including spectrum analyzers, power meters, Firebird testers, and voltmeters.

Maintain accurate technical documentation, diagrams, and configuration records.
Network & Transport
-
Support LAN/WAN networks using Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and gateways.
-
Configure and troubleshoot routing protocols (RIP, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF).
-
Operate within MPLS, VPLS, VPN, and traffic-engineered networks.

Perform installation, upgrade, and maintenance of network infrastructure.
COMSEC
-
Operate and handle KG-175 (TACLANE), KIV-7, or similar COMSEC encryption devices.

Perform key loading, accountability, and compliance with COMSEC procedures.
Additional Systems
-
Experience with Wireless infrastructure, IP acceleration, and Cisco Call Manager Express (CME).

Support voice, data, and video transport across tactical SATCOM packages.

Required Qualifications
Education
-
Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering preferred)
OR
-
4–6 years related military SATCOM experience with advanced commercial certifications may substitute per contract.
Experience
-
Minimum 4 years supporting installation, repair, troubleshooting, or maintenance of communications/satellite systems.

Minimum 4 years operating in tactical SATCOM environments with systems such as:

SNAP / AN/TSC-198
-
SSPA / LNA/LNB
-
Up/down converters
-
TDMA/FDMA modems
-
Experience with commercial and military satellite acquisition procedures.

Experience with TDMA/DAMA modem operations required.
- Must be US Citizen and hold an active secret clearance.
