This Isn't a Clipboard-and-Checklist Job
If you want to sit in an office reviewing reports other people wrote, this isn't your role.
If you want to own your day, work independently in the field, be the expert everyone depends on for accurate information, and see the direct impact of your work in every proposal that goes out the door — keep reading.
DHI Commercial is a growing commercial roofing division operating across the Kansas City metro and beyond. We handle reroofs, repairs, service and maintenance agreements, and insurance restoration work on flat/low-slope and shingle systems. We move fast, we operate with high standards, and we're building something worth being part of.
What You'll Actually Do
You're the eyes and ears of our sales and estimating operation. Before any proposal goes out, you've been on that roof. You've identified the system, documented the conditions, flagged the complications, and handed off a complete inspection package that lets our estimators price the job without ever calling you back for missing information.
Your day-to-day:
- Conduct thorough on-site inspections of commercial low-slope and shingled roofing systems — repairs, maintenance, full reroofs, and hail/wind damage claims
- Identify and document membrane type (TPO, EPDM, PVC, Mod-Bit, Metal, Shingle), system age, substrate condition, penetrations, drainage, flashing details, and damage
- Perform or coordinate aerial and physical measurements using Hover, EagleView, or equivalent platforms — quantity takeoffs have to be right
- Flag scope gaps, access constraints, safety hazards, code issues, and equipment needs before they become problems
- Compile organized inspection packages: photos, measurements, field notes, material specs — ready for estimating, no follow-up required
- Maintain accurate inspection records in CRM; annotate and organize photos professionally
- Coordinate scheduling with sales reps, property owners, and building managers
- Represent DHI Commercial on-site — you're often the first face a prospect sees
How You'll Know You're Winning
We keep score because we respect your time and want your results to be visible. You'll be measured on:
- Completeness and accuracy of inspection packages — estimators should be able to quote without a follow-up call
- Turnaround time from inspection to completed package handoff
- Photo quality, organization, and annotation
- Field measurement accuracy versus final project actuals
- Professionalism and client interaction quality on site
- Demonstration of our core values: Honesty, Integrity, Discipline, The Golden Rule, and Responsiveness
Who Thrives in This Role
The people who succeed here share a specific set of characteristics. They don't need someone checking over their shoulder. They take ownership of their work product. They're fast, thorough, and personally bothered when something gets missed.
You're likely a fit if you:
- Take pride in being the most knowledgeable person on the roof — and can back it up
- Operate independently without hand-holding, but communicate clearly and proactively
- Move with urgency and don't leave packages half-done
- Have high personal standards — you'd rather redo a report than hand off something sloppy
- Adapt quickly to new software, apps, and workflows — tech is a tool, not a barrier
- Can manage five pending inspections in your head, keep them organized, and deliver all five on time
- Are comfortable representing a company professionally with property managers, building owners, and insurance professionals
- Want to be recognized and respected as the subject matter expert in the room
What You Need to Bring
Non-negotiable:
- Deep, hands-on knowledge of commercial roofing systems — TPO, EPDM, PVC, Mod-Bit, Metal, and Shingles. If you can't identify a membrane type by sight and explain its repair implications, this role isn't the right fit yet
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability to climb and descend 32' extension ladders routinely and navigate varying roof surfaces
- Comfort working in all weather conditions — heat, cold, wind, and sun exposure are part of the job
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
Strong advantages:
- Experience with Hover, EagleView, or other aerial measurement platforms
- CRM or field software experience
- Background in insurance restoration inspection or loss documentation
- Familiarity with reading and interpreting roofing specs or manufacturer guidelines
Travel Expectations
This role requires routine out-of-state travel — typically 50–75% of the time, including multi-day trips. If you prefer to stay close to home every day, this isn't the right fit. If you like moving, covering ground, and working across different markets, this is the job.
Why DHI Commercial
- You'll have real ownership over your work — no one's going to micromanage your inspections
- Your output is directly tied to our ability to win work — your role matters and everyone knows it
- We're growth-stage, which means the people who perform early get to help shape what we build
- Our core values aren't wall art — Honesty, Integrity, Discipline, The Golden Rule, and Responsiveness are how we actually operate
- You'll work with a team that knows the industry and respects field expertise
