About the Role
Are you a tech-savvy professional who loves the challenge of taking a project from initial design to field implementation? IDFI is seeking a Project Design & Coordination Assistant to join our team. This role serves as a key partner to our Project Managers, assisting with the design, layout, and execution of complex steel fabrication and industrial piping projects.
This is not just a desk job. We are looking for someone who can move seamlessly between high-level design software and hands-on site coordination.
What You’ll Do
- Design & Drafting: Utilize AutoCAD and SolidWorks to develop complex plans, layouts, and specifications based on client needs.
- Project Planning: Assist in the development of project plans, including detailed labor estimates, material procurement, and time-scheduling.
- Client Coordination: Attend meetings with Project Managers and Sales Representatives to present design ideas, facilitate changes, and ensure client expectations are exceeded.
- Hands-on Implementation: Spend significant time in the field. This includes visiting job sites to monitor progress, troubleshooting installation issues, and occasionally providing hands-on demonstrations for the crew.
- Relationship Management: Maintain clear lines of communication between the shop floor, the field crews, the office, and the client to ensure projects stay on time and on budget.
Who You Are
- Technical Expert: You possess a strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles as applied to steel fabrication and industrial installation.
- Software Proficient: You are skilled in drafting complex plans using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
- Problem Solver: You have the ability to plan, design work, and make independent investigations to resolve project hurdles.
- Communicator: You communicate effectively with everyone from shop technicians to corporate clients. You can read, write, and interpret technical diagrams and instructions with ease.
- Field-Ready: You are comfortable working in an industrial environment and are physically capable of performing site work.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required. Preference given to candidates with college or technical school coursework in welding, machining, mathematics, drafting, or engineering.
- Experience: Experience in drafting, steel fabrication, or construction is highly preferred.
- Licensing: A valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and the ability to be insured through our vehicle insurance carrier.
Physical & Work Environment
This role is dynamic. While some time is spent in an office environment, you will be regularly exposed to industrial conditions, including:
- Moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and occasional chemicals.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, climb, and balance is required.
- Must be able to occasionally lift/move 50–75 lbs.
- Noise levels range from moderate to loud.
