OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY
Responsible for mechanical repairs and maintenance on a variety of heavy-duty trucks and trailers. This role is critical to ensure the reliability, safety and DOT compliance of our fleet, including tractors and trailers, sand haulers, bottom dumps, pneumatics, loaders, dozers, haul trucks, water trucks, pickups, and other associated support equipment. Work is performed both in the shop and in the field.
JOB DUTIES
· Removes and replaces transmissions, brakes (disc, hydraulic, and air brake systems), clutches, and drive shafts; repairs and replaces hydraulic hoses and systems.
· Inspects, repairs, and services suspension and steering systems, front-end alignment, rear suspensions, and electrical/electronic systems including lighting, emission controls, and DEF/DPF systems.
· Repairs, mounts, and dismounts tires; selects and identifies proper tire replacements with knowledge of legal load and size limits.
· Maintains accurate repair, service, and maintenance records; prepares work orders and orders parts using Asset Essentials or similar system; communicates status of downed vehicles to supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
· High school diploma, trade school or general education degree (GED); and 5+ years of related experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty diesel trucks and trailers; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Journeyman level mechanic with strong knowledge and demonstrated ability to diagnose and perform repairs on diesel and gasoline engine systems, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, and air systems.
· Experience with computerized diagnostic equipment, familiarity with systems such as DDDL, Freightliner ServiceLink, Cummins Insite, Allison DOC Transmission diagnostics, or similar OEM diagnostic tools preferred.
· Working knowledge of electrical systems including computerized ignition / induction systems; ability to read and interpret schematics and technical service manuals.
· Experience with basic fabrication, welding (acetylene and electric arc), and gas torch systems.
· Familiarity with DOT, TxDPS, FMSCA / CVSA compliance standards and inspection requirements.
· Basic computer skills for work orders, parts ordering, and maintenance tracking and reporting.
· Class A CDL preferred; valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required.
· Must possess personal tools necessary to perform the functions of the job.
· ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications preferred (T2–T8); Air Brake Certification a plus.
· Reliable attendance: ability to work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
WORK DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENT
· Must be physically capable of accessing all trucks and trailer equipment at the plant, including climbing into and out of vehicles, working in confined spaces, and accessing elevated platforms, and undercarriages.
· Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, bump cap, hearing protection, eye protection, hard-toed safety shoes or boots, (dust mask respirator) when required, protective clothing and gloves.
· The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: extreme heat and cold outdoor weather (rain, wind) , noise, vibration, oils, and atmospheric conditions such as dust, fumes, diesel/gasoline, chemicals and mineral particles.
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, walk on uneven surfaces, balance, stoop, kneel, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb ladders and stairs, and work in cramped positions.
· Must be able to lift, drag, and push vehicle components and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds, occasional lifting up to 100 pounds may be required.
· Ability to diagnose problems and make repairs in the field, including emergency roadside situations under varying weather and time conditions.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYEMENT
Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. This position requires a class A driver license and FMCSA- regulated ongoing drug and alcohol testing. .
Pay: $27.50 - $32.71 per hour
