Bring aging industrial equipment into the future. In this hands-on service engineering role, you will troubleshoot, modernize, program, and commission electrical control systems used in food production facilities across the United States.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced electrical controls professional who enjoys solving complex problems in the field and helping customers keep critical production equipment running. You will focus primarily on upgrades and retrofits of existing electrical systems, while also supporting troubleshooting, commissioning, documentation, and continuous improvement.
The equipment includes spiral freezers, tunnel freezers, and variable retention time (VRT) freezers used by food manufacturers. You will partner closely with field service technicians, project managers, engineering teams, and customers.
What You Will Do
- Evaluate existing electrical control systems and recommend practical upgrades, modernization, and standardization.
- Convert, update, test, and validate legacy Rockwell / Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI applications using current platforms and programming practices.
- Program and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley systems, including Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500, FactoryTalk ME, and RSLinx.
- Troubleshoot, configure, and commission VFDs and motion-control equipment, including Allen-Bradley PowerFlex and SEW drive systems.
- Read, interpret, create, and revise electrical schematics and control-panel drawings using AutoCAD Electrical or similar software.
- Provide remote and onsite technical support to service technicians and customers during repairs, upgrades, startups, and production issues.
- Perform I/O checks, safety-circuit validation, drive testing, communications troubleshooting, and startup support.
- Document field modifications and ensure electrical drawings accurately reflect the installed equipment.
- Identify root causes, develop corrective actions, and help prevent repeat failures.
- Support safe work practices and applicable company, customer, and regulatory requirements.
What You Bring
Required qualifications
- At least 4 years of hands-on industrial electrical, controls, automation, or field service experience.
- Strong practical experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell PLC and HMI platforms.
- Ability to read and troubleshoot electrical prints, schematics, control panels, field wiring, sensors, safety circuits, PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs.
- Experience troubleshooting and configuring Allen-Bradley PowerFlex drives.
- Ability to communicate clearly with technicians, customers, and internal teams during time-sensitive service situations.
- Strong problem-solving, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel to customer sites and work in active industrial food-production environments.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet customer-site access requirements.
Preferred, but not required
- Experience with Siemens PLC/HMI systems.
- Experience with Wonderware / InSource SCADA.
- Experience with SEW drives, MOVITOOLS, MotionStudio, MBX 61-series drives, or SEW communication gateways.
- Experience with industrial refrigeration, freezing, food processing, material handling, packaging, or similar equipment.
- Experience commissioning equipment or supporting retrofit and field-service projects.
- Travel and Work Environment
- Travel is expected to be approximately 80%, depending on project and customer needs.
- Travel often includes overnight stays and, at times, work outside standard business hours during commissioning or urgent service situations.
Why Join Us
- Work on technically challenging projects where your decisions have a visible impact on equipment reliability and customer operations.
- Combine controls engineering with hands-on troubleshooting, field service, and customer interaction.
- Help shape standardized upgrade solutions for a large installed base of industrial equipment.
- Collaborate with experienced service and engineering colleagues across an international organization.
