We are The Design Boutique, a digital marketing agency. Our clients’ Shopify stores are the engine behind everything we do — and right now they need a real developer behind them.
We protect our peace by staying ahead. We don’t ask a Project Manager to review a deliverable at 8 PM on a Sunday for a forgotten Monday deadline. If you respect boundaries, love a clean ticket queue, and would never push an untested change to a live store, you’re exactly who we’re looking for.
The Role in a Nutshell
We have an SEO team that knows its way around Shopify — what we need is the developer. Think image-heavy, high-end e-commerce: hundreds of SKUs, full-bleed hero videos, large photography, tracking scripts and apps stacked over the years. Beautiful storefronts with real performance debt underneath. If your Shopify experience is “I’ve set up a few stores with a template,” this isn’t your role.
----------> + If this sounds like you, application instructions are at the bottom. <----------
What You’ll Actually Do
- Core Web Vitals & Speed: This is the big one. Shopify has no WP Rocket — speed fixes here are hand-coded, theme-level optimization: lazy loading, deferring scripts, fixing oversized images, taming hero videos that kill LCP, stripping leftover app code. You know PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse, and Chrome DevTools cold, and you know “speed booster” apps are mostly snake oil.
- Tag & Script Cleanup: Audit duplicate GTM containers and stacked third-party scripts — coordinated with our team so analytics and ad conversion tracking never break.
- Theme Development & Big Edits: Liquid, HTML, CSS, JavaScript. Custom sections, layout overhauls, markup cleanup — built in a duplicated theme, tested, then published. Live stores are not your sandbox.
- Break-Fix & Emergency Triage: Pages error out, sections vanish, app updates break checkout, catalog syncs fail. You jump in, find the cause, and fix it — SEO-safe, always: no deleted pages without 301 redirects, no theme rollbacks that wipe meta data, no accidental noindex. Then you explain what happened in plain English.
- Large Catalogs: Bulk edits, variants, metafields, collection logic across hundreds of SKUs.
- SEO Implementation: Redirects, schema, heading structure — implemented with our SEO team, without breaking design.
The Stack
- ClickUp (non-negotiable — if you don’t love a project board, this isn’t for you)
- Shopify Admin & Theme Editor | Liquid | Chrome DevTools | PageSpeed Insights / Lighthouse | Slack | AI Tools
- Bonus points: WordPress and/or Squarespace — not required, but we’ll send extra work your way.
Who You Are
- Airtight: Hope is not a strategy. Scoping, testing in a duplicate theme, and double-checking before going live is.
- Self-sufficient: No “how-to” guide needed. You read the docs and figure it out.
- A plain-English communicator: Our PMs and clients aren’t developers, and you never make them feel dumb for asking.
- Experienced: 3+ years hands-on Shopify development. Portfolio or live store examples required.
- Reliable: You update the team before they have to ask.

The Application Process
In your Cover Letter, answer these:
- Full Name + “- Pixels” at the end (e.g., Alex Smith - Pixels).
- Links to 2–3 Shopify stores you’ve built or significantly worked on, and what you did.
- A store you made measurably faster: what was wrong, what you fixed, before/after numbers.
- A luxury store’s homepage opens with a full-screen autoplay video and LCP is failing. How do you fix it without losing the video?
- Your 3 “superpower” attributes.
- Why this role? Why now?
---------> + Heads up: You must send a cover letter answering the questions above to be considered! <---------
