We are seeking a Senior WordPress Developer with deep experience in modern WordPress development, accessibility standards, and performance optimization. You’ll be responsible for building, maintaining, and improving custom themes and plugins with a strong emphasis on WCAG 2.2 accessibility compliance.
Responsibilities
This role requires both front-end and back-end WordPress expertise, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to lead technical direction in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment. The ideal candidate will serve as a technical leader, mentoring junior web developers, supporting and guiding other team members, conducting code reviews, and promoting best practices across projects. This role provides technical leadership and mentorship but does not include direct personnel management responsibilities. The position requires strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills, along with the ability to balance hands-on development responsibilities with team mentorship and technical oversight.
- Lead the development, maintenance, and optimization of custom WordPress websites using Bricks Builder and modern front-end and back-end technologies.
- Develop custom WordPress functionality, plugins, integrations, and reusable components following modern coding standards (ES6+, PHP 8+, HTML5, CSS3/SCSS).
- Build and maintain scalable custom solutions utilizing Custom Post Types (CPTs), Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), WPForms, and WordPress APIs.
- Integrate third-party APIs, SaaS platforms, and external services to support business requirements and streamline workflows.
- Ensure websites are mobile-first, responsive, performant, secure, and compliant with modern web standards, including accessibility best practices (WCAG 2.1/2.2 and ADA compliance).
- Collaborate with designers, project managers, content teams, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Conduct code reviews, enforce development standards, and maintain technical documentation within the company’s development playbook.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to a small team of developers, fostering growth and adherence to best practices.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex technical issues across websites, integrations, and custom applications.
- Contribute to process improvements, workflow optimization, and development standards that enhance team efficiency and project outcomes.
- Monitor and optimize website performance, SEO technical requirements, and Core Web Vitals.
- Stay current with WordPress core updates, Bricks Builder enhancements, emerging web technologies, accessibility regulations, and industry best practices.
Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 7+ years of professional experience in WordPress development.
- Deep knowledge of the WordPress ecosystem, including Bricks Builder, WordPress hooks, REST API, custom post types, and custom fields.
- Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and WordPress development, including Custom Post Types (CPTs), Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), and WPForms.
- Extensive experience building custom websites and components using Bricks Builder.
- Experience developing mobile-first, responsive, and high-performance websites.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs and developing scalable WordPress plugins and custom solutions.
- Strong understanding of WordPress architecture, theme development, and performance optimization best practices.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in debugging, troubleshooting, code patching, UI/UX implementation, and web development best practices.
- Familiarity with WCAG 2.1/2.2 guidelines and experience implementing accessibility best practices, including testing with screen readers and accessibility tools such as axe, Lighthouse, WAVE, and NVDA.
- Experience with website deployments, hosting environments, and troubleshooting production issues.
Pay: $43.26 - $52.88 per hour
