Business Outlook

Pros

Rapid growth. $25/mon for gym. 4% match of 401k. Christmas dinner at Dave and Buster.

Cons

No business plan. No employee book. 20% of company is owner relatives with high pay but no degrees. No job descriptions ever provided. Work is as demanded and at will. Inexperienced COO runs lab. COO's MBA paid for by owner at company expense. Company buying competitors. Employees increased revenue by 20% while CEO keeps buying new instruments costing $1-3M every 6 months. Looks like CEO has divided company and will sell Company this year. Raises are 2-3%, but growth is >20% per yr. Employees not rewarded for producing 20-30% yearly growth rate over 7 yrs of existence. Insurance plan changes every year. No stock shares.

Poor Pay, Poor Communication

Business Outlook

Pros

Flexibility, location, Co-workers (not management or owner and family)

Cons

No cost of living increases, no overtime but expected to work until job is done. Almost every week we required to work 70+ hours with no extra pay. No benefits for family, children, spouse. Very little communication in company between owner and workers. Very low pay for job being done. Management say that we will get bonuses and to cover overtime and then we do not receive them. They do a good job of covering themselves by not putting anything in writing. No advancement opportunity in this company. There used to be some perks, Team Building to Reno for 3 days and lunches once in awhile. No family activities at all. These have gone away and one can only assume that its because the company is going downhill. Being a small individually owned company the owner has a lot of family on the payroll. None of the family have scientific or technical degrees but seem to make a lot more than the scientists doing the work.

Pros

Flexible Schedule, some good people.

Cons

Management, Executive Leadership, Work Culture, poor safety practices. This company has made a mediocre attempt to advance to a status of excellence, and it has failed miserably. A good work/life balance is encouraged on the surface, but the real expectation is that you'll be chained to your desk, instrument, and devices 24/7 (even on vacation) and you'll turn a blind eye to a leadership team that is clearly making things up as they go. There is zero empowerment from leadership, and a firm amount of gaslighting is administered at all times. Very little room for advancement, and if there IS an opportunity, you can be sure that by the time it was presented to you, at least two other people who knew better have already turned it down. People are just a number on a spreadsheet, your career development is only a priority if it suits leadership's agenda, your safety is NOT a priority at all, and know beyond a shadow of doubt that you are disposable. Period. As far as Quality goes, on more than one occasion you will be asked to do something unethical and likely illegal. Your bonus will be miniscule (heavily dependent on a level of favoritism and not the quality of your work or time in service) and you will be pacified with food and the occasional $25 gift card to check the "We care!" box. Leadership continue to enable absolute mismanagement as long as the site meets the revenue mark. Take what you can from this company, and apply it to a company afterwards that deserves you.
