Pros
Things started off well before you are fully aware of how DCPS claimed policies vs. true practices. You are at the mercy of whoever is chosen to lead a school. If you are lucky to land at a school with reasonable objective leaders who do, as they say, things go well. If you are willing to let leaders take advantage of your goodwill without exemption things will go well. It is possible to experience the best of the best, but it won't last.
Cons
Leadership changes OFTEN. Beware. Your professional record and performance ratings that you cultivate are at risk. If you want to work hard and be recognized a change of leadership risks that. You could be faced with a subjective leader who lacks integrity and leadership. And values that once existed such as professionalism, objectivity, best practices, and mutual respect can be dismantled in a moment. And the underlying racism and bias that exists in all public schools rise to the surface. And, what is revealed is the worst of the worst. And CENTRAL office all the way up to Scott Brash (their head attorney) defends these disgusting racist, ableist administrators. The problem always starts at the top. So are you willing to risk your health and professional standing on a system that truly doesn't care about the health and well-being of their employees, even at some of DCPS's top-rated schools? The union is weak. Ask the union what cases they successfully arbitrated before joining.
