Pros
Lot of growth potential, good skills to learn, work life balance, and exposure to other value streams/functions of the business. Team sizes are typically medium to large and overall not too toxic.
Cons
Many big company stereotypes apply. Technical expertise will get you only so far. You must understand the culture these companies operate in to suceed in this system. The biggest problem by far is a terrible game of telephone with much of management. What you say will very often become misconstrued in the worse possible way. Example: You might be particularly busy one day with far more tasks than normal and request support because you understand there is greater risk of making a mistake if you tackle it all on your own. You explain to management and get the support, but what you don't see is management then discusses this in a closed door meeting and determined you couldn't handle the work because either you are incompetant or because you don't like working. If this occurs, the uphill battle to change their impression of you is so great, it is faster to find a new job in this economy. It was in my case. I cannot stress enough the importance of understanding corporate culture to suceed here. You MUST have a good relationship with leadership. If no one can vouch for you, than cases like the one above will frequently occur and there will be zero potential for growth within Millipore.
