Pros
Great Benefits, Training, and Resources. The company has a great legacy. The stations operate at a high standard. The company invests in resources, technology, and training. Excellent benefits, including a pension, which is extremely rare these days.
Cons
Workplace Favoritism, Toxic Culture. I'm not sure if the issues were limited to just my location and department, but morale was about the worst I've ever seen in a workplace in a long time. There was no quality leadership. There were bosses, but leadership was missing. We had a severe weather situation (pending landfall of a major hurricane) where an expectation was placed that "everyone was expected to work" and could not evacuate with family. There was no safety protocol passed along to employees. Usually in these situations, management would (and should) disburse a safety plan to those who will be working in severe weather conditions. This plan should outline a course of action based on various levels of windspeeds and possible flooding, including an evacuation plan, especially for buildings that have an adjacent tower, which are rated to endure a maximum sustained windspeed and have a safety limit. Management showed favoritism. Certain employees were elevated to positions with little to no experience in those roles. Such roles were not posted for others to apply for. I've seen people unexpectedly demoted to make room for these promotions. They did not conduct performance reviews. There was no communication in this area so you never had an performance record or dialogue regarding areas to improve or knew where you stood. Sudden changes were often made to an employees role without any warning, transparency, or communication. I witnessed hostility, where managers would yell at, or ridicule subordinates openly in front of others. I heard a department head making fun of an interviewee's urban dialect after the interview to other managers. Upper management were witnessed, or overheard, talking about other employees "behind their backs". I believe this encouraged that behavior. All of this was disappointing to say the least. On the surface, this is a great company. I expected more professionalism. However, I wouldn't discourage anyone from applying. There are many great people in the company and the experience is valuable. Also, workplace culture can be fixed, and will change as leadership changes.
