Pros

Benefits were great and it was exciting to be part of a large, growing organization.

Cons

During my time at JELD-WEN, the culture ranged from bearable to toxic. The employee turnover rate was astronomically high and it was disappointing to see great people leaving the organization due to mismanagement and poor leadership. It was also uncomfortable to feel the growing pains of a company that recently made the transition to becoming publically traded. Layoffs and hiring freezes seemed almost routine.

Pros

- Jeld-Wen pays more than most places around here for every position. - You will work lots of hours, whether you want to or not. We all have bills to pay. In the short term this can be a good thing. - The co-workers there all come together and support each other for the most part. - Benefits and 401(k) matching are competitive - If you quit or get fired, that bridge is likely not burned. Frequently, they will hire you back.

Cons

- Extraordinarily toxic environment. - Zero work-life balance - Very high turn-over at every level - Will tell you on Friday afternoon that you will be required to work Saturday, and then Saturday will require you to work Sunday. Never mind whether you had plans. And no, this is not an option. - Your job will be threatened at the drop of a hat. - Management is always angry and generally abusive - If you take advantage of their school assistance program, expect to get fired before they pay you.

Pros

Seemed a great opportunity at the start. Was offered a manager role at excellent pay. Responsibilities grew rapidly and plenty of room for improvement.

Cons

Pay was excellent but benefits were weak. No work-life balance, expect long hours. Each plant is its own entity and competes with other plants for customers so no sharing of best practices. 2017 expectations from 1940s processes and equipment. Lack of training, you are just expected to know or "get creative." Constant pressure to achieve targets or you won't be around. Group manager is expected to be all things; manager, floor supervisor, materials coordinator, scheduler, backup operator, quality control, order validation and shipping coordinator.
