With so many smiling faces, it’s clear our associates had a great time at our Golf Tournament last month! Our people enjoyed hitting the links, hanging out with friends from work, and making new memories. Our two-day event consisted of a 9-hole and 18-hole tournament, and included fun swag, a yummy breakfast beforehand, and prizes for our top golfers. We loved being able to gather together and bring back an event that has long been a favorite tradition at 1-800 Contacts. #lifeat1800contacts #1800contacts #golftournament #teambuilding #cedarhillsgolfcourse
Shout-out to our July Acclaim winners, Christopher K., Marketing (We Champion You), Laynie M., Customer (We Win as a Team), Landon T., Technical Operations (We Make Her Day), and Korinne B., UT DC (We Live for the Impossible). These four not only won an Acclaim for their exemplary efforts at 1-800 Contacts, they are also the final four to win under our newly retired company values. Over the years, we have received thousands of nominations under these values, learned about countless acts of kindness, and observed some truly impressive achievements. We want to thank our associates for the way they whole-heartedly championed one another, won as a team, made one another's and our customers’ day, and lived for the impossible. These associates will forever be a special part of 1-800 history. Congrats again, Christopher, Laynie, Landon, and Korinne! Keep an eye out next month for when we announce our first round of winners under our new company values! #lifeat1800contacts #recognition #acclaimwinners
We love hearing about the cool volunteer opportunities happening at 1-800 Contacts, often behind the scenes. A group of our associates recently visited Encircle (a Utah-based organization committed to building safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ youth, young adults, and families) to host a free trunk show. This event not only provided free eyewear and fittings for those in need, but also came with the concierge experience our customers have come to know and expect from 1-800 Contacts and Liingo Eyewear. To read about Ben Jones' experience, one of our amazing volunteers, we invite you to check out our full post on @lifeat1800contacts (https://www.instagram.com/lifeat1800contacts). #lifeat1800contacts #contactsgivesback #encircletogether #1800contacts
We’re throwing back to our Juneteenth Celebrations earlier this month. In our companywide newsletter, we shared educational resources about this important American holiday, and highlighted the different events happening in both our Utah and North Carolina communities. The Friday before Juneteenth, our Charlotte associates celebrated with some amazing food from Made From Scratch, a Black-owned food truck that specializes in comfort food. (Picture mac and cheese, crispy shrimp, chicken and waffles, Brussels sprouts, and impossible burgers. #yum) Our associates also played Juneteenth trivia and had the chance to win custom Juneteenth merchandize designed by our very own associates! #lifeat1800contacts #juneteenth #madefromscratch #diversityandinclusion #1800contacts
As part of our PRIDE celebrations this month, we invited our Utah associates to decorate a sidewalk space at our Draper campus (or from home). We provided the chalk, snacks, and lunch, but our associates were the ones who made this a truly special event. We loved seeing everyone gather together to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ culture and community. #lifeat1800contacts #pridemonth #1800contacts #diversityandinclusion
Joseph G. Carbone and his nonprofit eye clinic, EyeCare4Kids, have been doing some incredible work in our community for the past two decades. We’re honored to be a piece of the puzzle and partner with them to help provide vision care for kids in need. We invite you check out the article below to learn more about Carbone’s mission and how he’s giving back. #eyecare4kids #1800contacts #sighttheworld #visioncare #givingback
Shout-out to our May ACCLAIM winners, Berlynn (We Champion You), Chris (We Live for the Impossible), Melisa (We Make Her Day), and Josh (We Win as a Team)! We love seeing the different ways our people live our company values, and contribute to our awesome culture. Check out what our associates had to say about these amazing individuals: Berlynn, Marketing “She truly knows how to champion people and push them toward new challenges and development. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have had the courage to apply and try something new.” Chris, IT “Chris is awesome! He's always looking for ways he can contribute and make the website better for everyone (customers and devs alike)!” Melisa, Customer “She was already thinking up ways to resolve this customer's delay. The crazy thing is she's brand new. She is already owning the company's mentality of taking care of the customer and finding a way!” Josh, IT “Josh heard about a defect on a KPI counting application affecting our team and jumped in to investigate. He found that a few things were amiss and took the time to resolve them."
Last year, we were presented with an opportunity to partner with Encircle to help make a difference in our communities. Chef Tom, executive chef at 1-800 Contacts who helped lead these efforts, shared: “Encircle has been there for a few good friends of mine. They offer a safe space for everyone to be included and taken care of, where young people can go to be with friends or meet new people. Some of these kids are especially vulnerable, so we are more than happy to do some small thing to make their day better.” Our 20/20 Grille team now sends 50 meals twice a month to their Provo and Salt Lake houses. These gourmet meals, made fresh by Chef Tom and his crew, range from swordfish to New York steaks to saag paneer. We love seeing the smiles of our friends at Encircle, and knowing that we truly are better together. Want to learn more about Encircle and some of the amazing things they are accomplishing? Earlier this month, we held our 6th annual Lensy Awards. Associates from all three of our campuses came together virtually to participate in this recognition event. We cheered for new record holders, celebrated our Values in Action, Contacts Choice, and Annual Acclaims winners, and highlighted our Salt Lake and Charlotte distribution centers for pushing through the challenges of 2020. Together, we continued to take care of our people, get orders out to our customers, and look ahead to the future. We also sent our people a fun swag package in the mail to commemorate the occasion. We are so grateful for our amazing associates and for the determination, resilience, and resourcefulness they showed last year, and continue to show. We look forward to another great year and seeing what our team is able to accomplish! #lifeat1800contacts #1800contacts #recognition #lensyawards
At 1-800 Contacts, learning and development continues to be a focus of ours for our associates. We believe in championing our people and helping them reach their potential. From our tuition reimbursement benefit to our in-house developments programs and mentorships, our associates have access to the resources and tools needed to expand their knowledge and further their careers. Cheralynn Dansie, IT Product Manager, not only functions as a counselor for our IT development program, she’s also an active participant. She shared the following: “Recently, 1-800 Contacts introduced a skills and badges program to help encourage individuals to broaden their skillsets while participating in a fun and valuable program. I’ve already earned my first two, the Lean Agile Practices and Data Steward badges. The principles learned while obtaining these badges can be applied in my everyday work. I appreciate the opportunity to expand my skillset while adding to my collection of cool stickers on my laptop. Thanks, Chris Wilsher and the IT Leadership Team, for providing this program.”
