October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. To help spread awareness, our Charlotte associates (including Christina F., people operations generalist) are wearing purple ribbons. Together, we can speak out and help break the cycle. How can you get involved and make a difference? Help spread awareness on your own social media channels. Consider using hashtags such as #voiceshavepower, #breakthecycle, and #domesticviolenceawareness. Consider making a donation (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence is a great option). Educate yourself and help educate those around you. #lifeat1800contacts
Our associates continue to inspire us. Over the past several months, there has been an increased need for blood donations. Jenny S., one of our financial clerks, saw an opportunity to give back and help make a difference. She shared the following with us: “I chose to donate because I’m healthy and able. Since corona started, blood has been in a huge demand. I know that’s one small way I can help people who are sick.” What inspiring acts of kindness or service are you seeing in your communities? #lifeat1800contacts #contactsgivesback
Today, we remember those who lost their lives in the September 11th attacks, including the firefighters, paramedics, and police officers that gave their lives for duty, honor, and country. It is also a day where we can focus on coming together and finding common ground. We want to thank our associate that submitted this photo for todayâs post. #lifeat1800contacts #neverforget
Our Charlotte associates recently partnered with Classroom Central, a non-profit that provides free school supplies to students in need, for a service project. By working together in small pods, our DC associates assembled 94 STEM kits, 94 homework kits, and 24 backpacks. These kits and backpacks included everything from notebooks, rulers, and crayons to scissors, calculators, and graph paper. Each donation also included a note of encouragement from one of our associates. Back-to-school during COVID has been a struggle for many in our communities, and our associates wanted to find a way to help support local schools and parents during this time. We love hearing about these inspiring examples, and how our teams are making a difference. Thank you to these volunteers for seeking out an opportunity to give back! #lifeat1800contacts #charlotte #contactsgivesback #classroomcentral
Last week, Chef Tom and his team partnered with several other Utah companies to make a donation to Encircle, a Utah-based organization that focuses on providing resources and housing to LGBTQ+ youth. Our Grille team assembled 100 boxed lunches, which were then paired with back-to-school supplies for at risk teens. The lunches included sandwiches, hummus, crackers, trail mix, apples, yogurt, bottled water, utensils, and condiments. The entire Grille team pitched in to make this project a success. We love hearing about these stories, and seeing our associates make a difference in our communities. #lifeat1800contacts #1800contacts #encircletogether #contactsgivesback #wewinasateam #2020grille

Today marks the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the 19th Amendment, an important milestone for women's rights. In honor of Women's Equality Day and with election season approaching, we reached out to Allison Fleming, VP, Government Relations at 1-800 Contacts, to share her thoughts on how women's voices can help make a difference in our communities. "I remember voting with my mother from the time I was a young child. We would go into the booth together, she pointed at candidates' names, and I would pull the lever. Then, I would push the "vote button" to register the vote, and the curtain would open. Without the 19th Amendment, my grandmothers', my mother's, and my vote would not be possible. When voting for local, state, or presidential candidates, participation is the key to having all voices heard. Regardless, of political party or ideology, I urge you to vote this November." Meet Austin, social media coordinator, TV show and movie buff, and cocktail connoisseur. Austin is part of our marketing team and assists with our customer-facing channels. His role ranges from brainstorming new social posts and helping out with PR and marketing initiatives to managing our ambassador relationships. Austin shared: “The most rewarding part of my position at 1-800 is a bit unorthodox, but being surrounded by talented individuals who are passionate about what they do is absolutely my favorite aspect to the job. I learn so much from my co-workers and it’s something I wasn’t prepared for when I started working in marketing, but I’m beyond grateful for it. It’s a blessing to work for a company like 1-800 Contacts that is deeply dedicated to inclusion and listening to its employees’ opinions.” Austin is a member of the LGBTQ+ community and was recently featured on our company blog.
