Last weekend, we were honored to be a sponsor for the 45th Annual Utah Asian Festival. This festival featured a variety of cultural dance and martial arts performances, food trucks, and more. Renata, one of our Customer Department trainers, volunteered at this event as a representative of our company. She shared: "Being part of the Asian culture has always been a very important thing throughout my entire life, but I have always had to do it on my own. Working for 1-800 Contacts has been so wonderful because we strive to celebrate Asian communities. We are also always striving to do better to be more involved in bringing awareness that every different background shouldn’t divide us, but rather our different backgrounds make us all stronger." #1800contacts #lifeat1800contacts #contactsgivesback #utahasianfestival #bettertogether
We’re throwing back to last week when our Charlotte associates held their own Chalk Art Event in celebration of Pride Month. 🖤🤎❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 We love how creative our associates are, and even more how Big-hearted and welcoming they are. In addition to covering the sidewalks at their campus with inspiring art and messages, they celebrated with some yummy, Pride-themed cupcakes from a local favorite, Smallcakes Utopia. #lifeat1800contacts #1800contacts #pride #bettertogether #throwbackthursday
Last week, we were honored to host the Utah Black History Museum at our Draper campus. Their setup, designed to promote the understanding, appreciation, and advancement of the Black experience in Utah, includes an extensive collection of Black artwork, dolls, books, and educational materials. Our associates and their family members were able to stop by on their breaks (with many coming by outside of their shifts) to view this incredible traveling exhibit. To learn more about the important work that the Utah Black History Museum is doing and where their mobile exhibit will pop up next, check out their Instagram channel, https://www.instagram.com/utahblackhistorymuseum/. #lifeat1800contacts #1800contacts #utahblackhistorymuseum #drapercampus #bettertogether
Last week in honor of Juneteenth, our associates gathered together at our different campuses to celebrate this important American holiday. They not only had the chance to connect with new and old friends from the organization, but also listen to some great music while enjoying some incredible cuisine from local, Black-owned food trucks, including Jamaica's Kitchen and Jazzy Cakes. To help drive awareness, we shared educational resources in our company newsletter, promoted local Juneteenth events, held discussions on our Yammer channel, and even held a book lottery. Our organization and our associates have also made donations to various social justice groups, and we continue to look for ways we can get involved with our communities and help giveback. We recognize we still have a ways to go, but seeing how big-hearted and inclusive our people are, we are excited for the future. #1800contacts #lifeat1800contacts #juneteenth #bettertogether #diversityandinclusion
We had so much fun the other weekend celebrating at the Utah Pride Parade! We came, we saw, we slayed! A big thank you to everyone to helped behind the scenes to make this event a success, and to our associates and their family and friends who came out to support. This was the state’s first Pride Parade since 2019, and the energy and excitement felt across all the weekend's activities was incredible. At 1-800 Contacts, we welcome all to our organization and believe that it is our people who make our company such a special place to work. We truly are Better together. Danielle S. (Associate Product Manager, Software Engineering) who is part of our 1-800 Contacts family, shared what attending this event meant to her. “Working for a company that values who I am is great... having my company stand alongside me to celebrate who I am and my community is AMAZING! The feeling of belonging and safety I receive by their participation in the Utah Pride Festival gives a clear message that 1-800 Contacts cares. It's no coincidence that we are voted Best Company to Work For year after year."
With the growing interest and opportunities in technology, one of the resources we provide at 1-800 is CTAC-U (Contacts University). This Dev Camp, which utilizes Pluralsight tools, is driven by our own leaders and engineers in technology and provides our associates with the opportunity to learn different technical/coding languages – all at their own pace. Our current class, which kicked off last month, is made up of 23 students from throughout the organization and includes many of our recent Tech-Mom graduates. Chris Wilsher (Director of Software Engineering), who has been leading the implementation of this program along with Kirk Graves (Software Engineer IV), shared: “This is such a fantastic program for our associates and really highlights the commitment 1-800 Contacts has towards developing its associates and providing real opportunities for meaningful career change and growth. I’m excited for this group of students. They are smart, full of enthusiasm and hungry to learn. It’s going to be brilliant!” #1800contacts #lifeat1800contacts #technology #development
Last week, our Salt Lake associates showed their PRIDE by creating fun and inspiring chalk and rock art at their campus. We love seeing our creative and BIG-HEARTED associates come together to commemorate this month-long celebration, and are grateful for those who worked behind the scenes to make this event a success. We truly believe and stand by our value that we are Better together. 🖤🤎❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 Jacy Erickson, Administrative Assistant at our Utah distribution center, shared her thoughts around Pride this month and throughout the year at 1-800 Contacts. “One of my favorite quotes is by Harvey Milk, visionary civil and human rights leader. ‘All people regardless of sexual orientation or identity deserve a safe and supportive environment in which to achieve their full potential.’ We are so lucky to work for a company that provides that environment not only in word but in big-hearted action. Everyone is welcome here and celebrated just as they are.” What are some ways you, your family, and friends are showing your PRIDE this month? #lifeat1800contacts #1800contacts #pridemonth
Last month, our Customer Department kicked off their spring Associate Development Program. This 12-week class provides associates who are eager and ready for development the opportunity to connect with various leaders within the company, expand their knowledge of the ins and outs of the business, and much more. Many of our associates who have gone through this program have gone on to serve in leadership roles within their department as well as other professional roles at 1-800. Melanie Perea, one of our current participants, shared her experience with this program. “ADP has really been key to helping me figure out how to handle situations with my team as they come up. It's taught me how to ask the right questions to get to the root of a problem. I now have tools and confidence that I can have difficult conversations. One of the things I appreciate most from this program is the opportunity to see our management team be vulnerable. I've learned a lot from the successes and failures they've shared. It means so much to me to know that I have people in my corner who want me to succeed.”
Earlier this month, a group of graduates and instructors from Tech-Moms got together at our Draper campus for a study group meetup. We were happy to host this talented group of women as they worked together to continue building their portfolios and community. Camille MacCauley, Facilities Tech Supervisor at 1-800 Contacts and Tech-Moms graduate, not only set up this study group for her fellow alumni, but helped organize it from start to finish. A special shout-out to Chef Tom and our 20/20 Grille for preparing the food, and to our admins and help desk team for helping out behind the scenes to make the evening a success. We can’t wait to see what these amazing women are able to accomplish, and look forward to hosting more of these types of events at our Draper campus. #1800contacts #lifeat1800contacts #techmoms #womenwhocode #meetup #studygroup #bettertogether
