Last week, the University of Utah held their inaugural EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Graduation Celebration to honor the university’s diverse graduates. These students are closely connected to one of the U’s EDI centers: American Indian Resource Center, Black Cultural Center, Center for Equity and Student Belonging, Dream Center, and LGBT Resource Center. We were thrilled to be a sponsor and among those in attendance at this historic event. Cami Smith, Business Partner at 1-800 Contacts, who had the opportunity to attend the graduation celebration, shared: “It was amazing to see so many students wanting to make a difference and stand up to social injustice, and further educate the community.” Shout-out to these graduates on their achievement! We are excited for what the future holds for you. #lifeat1800contacts #1800contacts #bettertogether #diversityandinclusion #universityofutah
You never know what friendships and memories you’re going to make along the way at 1-800 Contacts. 😊 This past Saturday, several of our associates and leaders had the opportunity to attend the American Indian Services (AIS) Gala at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City. We are honored to have been a sponsor of this incredible event, that raised funds to provide scholarships and educational programs for Native American/Alaska Native (NA/AN) students. It was an extra special evening, one that our associates will surely remember for years to come. We also want to shout-out Susy, Renata, Tracie, Berlynn, Amy, Debbie, Bethany, and Sariah, who helped volunteer at this event! We are so grateful for our big-hearted associates who jump at the opportunity to get involved and help give back to our communities. To learn more about the important work AIS is doing, we invite you to check out their website americanindianservices.org. #lifeat1800contacts #americanindianservices #contactsgivesback #1800contacts
“My recruiting process with Jade was above and beyond anything I have experienced in my career. She took the time to learn about me as a candidate, and was extremely attentive throughout the process. A few examples where Jade went above and beyond: first, when the initial role I applied for was filled, Jade proactively read my resume and talked to me about potential opportunities that might be a good fit. Second, Jade checked in throughout the process and rescheduled interviews/follow-ups as needed when I got sick. Third, even though she was on vacation, Jade made sure to keep me updated with texts, and called me to deliver the great news about my offer. Finally, when I got to the office on Monday, Jade was there to give me a tour, despite being remote, and made sure I got settled on my first day. Overall, Jade left a wonderful first impression of what being an associate at 1-800 Contacts would look like!” We are grateful to have people like Jade as part of our 1-800 family, and want to congratulate her on winning our Big-hearted value award for March! #lifeat1800contacts
We are excited to once again be named on the Women Tech Council’s Shatter List, honoring companies committed to breaking the glass ceiling between women and tech, and connecting them with tech-related development opportunities and career paths. We are grateful for the incredible leaders and mentors at 1-800 Contacts, who whole-heartedly live our value, Better together. Their commitment to championing the incredible women in our workforce and in our communities is both inspiring and needed. We also want to shout out the other winners on the Women Tech Council’s 2022 Shatter List. Congrats on your achievement! #lifeat1800contacts #1800contacts #womentechcouncil #breakthebias #tech #innovation
We’re thrilled to have been a sponsor for last week’s Executive Education Women’s Symposium, held at David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah. Those in attendance had the opportunity to hear from some amazing women in our community who are making a difference, shaping Utah’s business landscape. Thirty of our associates were able to attend this event, whether in-person or virtually. Windy Kener, one of our leaders in our Customer Department, shared, “I’m grateful for a “Humbitious” leadership group. This meeting left a foot print on my soul. I feel honored to work for an organization that advocates for women leaders and massively supports our development. I’ve made some amazing friends and mentors here.” We are grateful for those in our organization and in our community who work tirelessly to mentor and champion women. Their commitment to empowering and growing our communities of women is truly inspiring. #1800contacts #lifeat1800contacts #universityofutah #womeninbusiness #bettertogether #tenacious
Last week as part of our Women’s History Month celebrations, our associates came together (in-person and remotely) for the third year in a row to assemble feminine hygiene kits for local women’s shelters. Unfortunately, many of the women at these shelters don’t have access or support to purchase these products, and we wanted to find a way to help alleviate that burden. We are inspired by our associates and their desire to give back in a meaningful way. Associates from our Charlotte, Dallas, Draper, and Salt Lake campuses got involved, and together, we were able to donate 1,500 kits to women in need. 💛 #1800contacts #lifeat1800contacts #contactsgivesback #bighearted #bettertogether #womenshistorymonth
If you ask Chef Tom, Executive Chef at 1-800 Contacts, there isn’t much that homemade chicken noodle soup and cookies can’t help mend. Our 20/20 Grille has a long history of being Big-hearted and caring for our people and those in our community - through the incredible food they create and the charitable donations they’ve coordinated. When COVID cases began to spike at the beginning of the year, Chef Tom saw another opportunity where his team could help make a difference. Over the past two years, our 20/20 Grille has successfully shipped hundreds of meals and ingredients all over the continental US. Having found success with this process, they implemented a new care package program for any associates in need of a little encouragement, complete with (you guessed it) chicken noodle soup and cookies. Since January, our 20/20 Grille has shipped out dozens and dozens of packages. Chef Tom shared, "My team is very thankful for the support we get from our leaders who enable opportunities like this, and also for the countless associates who've donated to our care package program."
We couldn’t let the month draw to a close without recognizing our January Acclaim winners. Congrats, Layne H. (Better together), Randon S. (Tenacious), Dr. Todd Childs (Big-hearted), and Kristen P. (Unconventional), on this achievement! To celebrate, each out of our winners received some yummy cookies, festive balloons, and a $100 AMEX gift card. Our people continue to inspire us with how they support and champion one another. Their commitment to our culture and organization is just one of the many things that makes 1-800 Contacts a special place to be. #lifeat1800contacts #1800contacts #companyvalues #acclaimwinners #recognition #joinourteam
For National Wear Red Day last week, our associates wore red in support of heart health awareness. It was incredibly heart-warming seeing this color throughout our physical and virtual campuses. Heart disease continues to be the number one cause of death in the world for women and men. As numbers continue to rise, education and resources are more important than ever. We are grateful to have a team of talented wellness specialists who are committed to the well-being of our people. This month, they launched a new list of wellness activities that not only drive physical wellness, but also purpose, connection, environmental awareness, and personal growth. By completing these activities, our associates can earn wellness points (which can be cashed out for egift cards), but more importantly, create healthy new habits that will set them on a path toward improved health. #lifeat1800contacts #1800contacts #nationalwearredday #wellness #hearthealthawareness
