Employee Resource Groups from across Ares and Proskauer Rose LLP recently partnered with Phillip Lim, Co-Founder and Creative Director of 3.1 Phillip Lim, for a fireside chat and Q&A session titled “The Power of Identity: Celebrating Individualism and Authenticity”. Moderated by Jana Markowicz, COO of Ares Capital Corporation, and Monica Arora, Co-Head of Proskauer Private Funds Group, this discussion centered the importance of intersectionality and covered the story behind the brands founding and development, the activism woven into the brands core mission and the many ways it led Lim to be recognized as a United Nations Human Rights Champion. Proceeds from the event will benefit Apex for Youth, a NYC-based non-profit organization empowering Asian and immigrant youth through mentoring and educational opportunities. Thank you to Proskauer and Phillip Lim for helping to bring this event to life.
Ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, Ares employee resource group Elevating API Voices (“EAV”) led its fifth event with Meals for Unity, volunteering in New York City’s Chinatown neighborhood to help address food insecurity among marginalized communities. Since beginning our partnership with Meals for Unity, Ares has sponsored well over 1,400 meals for the local community—roughly 300 of which were distributed during last week’s event. Thanks to all who came out to volunteer and to Meals for Unity for the continued support in this important cause. We are excited to announce the official start to the Ares 2023 Summer Internship Program! This summer, nearly 150 talented individuals will join us for 10 weeks in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, LA, London and New York. In the U.S., we kicked off the summer with a full day of programming that included an interactive panel led by firm leaders Kort Schnabel, Trey Pruitt, Aaron Rosen and Jennifer Kozicki, and a volunteer event with Rise Against Hunger. We are committed to investing in talent entering the early years of their careers and ensure each class spends the summer immersed in the alternative asset management industry with exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to make valuable contributions to all of Ares’ businesses and functions. 2023 continued Ares’ tradition of joining Cycle for Survival’s effort to beat rare cancers. For the last 10 years, Ares has organized across the country and we are proud to share that we have raised nearly $700K to date for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Ares proudly amplified employee’s charitable donations by offering a dollar-for-dollar match, allowing the 100+ Ares employees who participated in Dallas, LA, NY and virtually to raise nearly $75K for the cause in 2023 alone. #CycleForSurvival #Philanthropy
We are pleased to share that Ares has achieved Management Leadership for Tomorrow's Black Equity at Work Certification, an exciting milestone on our ongoing DEI journey. The Certification was launched in 2020 as a road map to enable employers to make meaningful, measurable progress toward Black Equity, and Ares is among just eight other companies in the U.S. to achieve this certification, underscoring our commitment to rigorous action and accountability. We look forward to continuing this work alongside MLT to sustain and enhance our results across the board.

In January, Ares employees—including Co-Founder Tony Ressler—participated in AltFinance's 2023 Atlanta Workshop, taking part in panel discussions and networking with this year’s cohort of AltFinance fellows. Now in its second year, the program—co-sponsored by Ares, Apollo and Oaktree—aims to create transformational impact in the HBCU community through partnerships with nonprofit organizations and academic institutions.
