Our Birmingham team recently spent a Friday volunteering with Habitat for Humanity in Bessemer, Alabama. We installed soffit, collected roofing nails, and spread hay around the construction site - small tasks that contribute to the bigger mission of building homes and hope. It was a great way to spend time together while giving back, especially as we celebrate our 70th anniversary this year. Beautiful weather and good company made the day even better.
It's Gopher Tortoise Day! Today we celebrate this remarkable keystone species whose burrows provide essential shelter for over 360 other wildlife species. Without these gentle, long-lived reptiles and their impressive underground homes, many of these creatures couldn't survive in their native habitats. hashtag#TeamBarge is on-location right now in Lakeland, Florida, performing a gopher tortoise survey for a transportation project that will serve as emergency staging for vehicles during critical events. We're proud of our specialized team that balances environmental conservation with critical infrastructure development across the Southeast, making sure they move forward responsibly.
