As CRTKL celebrates its 75th Anniversary, we look to the future and how we, as a firm, can tackle important issues like equal representation, pay equity, and fair opportunity. “Without the diversity of thought from women around the globe, we may not have weathered this storm. We are deeply grateful to our people for continuing to work for the great of the world while their own seemed to fall apart,” adds CEO and President Kim Heartwell.
As a firm, we recognize the inherent value in a diverse workforce and an inclusive work environment –more holistic and equitable decision-making, higher performance and more innovation, and greater employee connection and engagement. We know we can do more as a team than as individuals. Our global reach and influence allow us to make substantive progress as we amplify our efforts and channel them toward progress. We value the differences among people and the contribution these differences bring to our business. It is everyone’s responsibility to live and endorse a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at CallisonRTKL. Collectively, we must actively work against racism, sexism, and other forms of bias. We recognize that certain groups are underrepresented in our workforce and our industry. We are working to make waves here as we believe that a focused commitment to implementing practices and actions will help us continue to create a strong and dynamic company and industry.
March 20th, is International Happiness Day. But there’s no denying it: in a matter of a few short months, COVID-19 has globally redefined our personal lives, our social lives and our work lives. With “social distancing” as the new norm, can we look to the design of our environments to help instill a sense of security– and even happiness– in uncertain times? Social connectedness is the bedrock of happiness and CallisonRTKL, along with partners Delivering Happiness and DMG Mountain View, is taking the matter to heart. As a part of International Happiness Day, they are sharing a program currently underway called Happiness By Design— a methodology to measure and apply happiness in the built environment. The aspiration of the Happiness By Design team is to apply principles of happiness to the design of buildings, the nurturing of its occupants and the development of the cultural programs that connect them. In essence, we seek to usher in a new era of humanism in design– something our world is certainly in need of today.
