We would like to wish a happy Kwanzaa to all who celebrate! Kwanzaa is an African American and pan-African holiday which celebrates family, community, culture, and life. This holiday is celebrated throughout a seven-day period that began on December 26th and ends on January 1st. During the holiday, families and communities organize activities around the Seven Principles which typically includes feasts, music, dance, poetry, narratives and more. #Kwanzaa
For our last week of #UniversalHumanRightsMonth, we are highlighting the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet, Tenzin Gyatso. As a Buddhist monk and spiritual leader of Tibet, he has made reforms in the Tibetan constitution to include freedom of speech, belief, assembly and movement. He is an advocate for greater global equality and the equal rights of all people to peace, happiness, freedom, equality and dignity.
As part of a larger partnership with the Garcia Family Foundation, we are proud to further our support of the Human Services Campus, especially in honor of someone near and dear to our organization. The Human Services Campus recently held a virtual fundraiser breakfast in honor of Mike McQuaid, a driving force behind the creating of the Human Services Campus and a former board member of ours, who passed away in July from COVID-19. Mike will be greatly missed, and we are proud to provide support in his honor. To watch the recorded virtual event, follow the link below: https://iamhome.hsc-az.org/
This week for #UniversalHumanRightsMonth we are recognizing Rosa Parks, who was both a civil rights activist and a human rights activist. She refused to surrender her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama which would spark the Montgomery Bus Boycott and give her the nickname of being “the first lady of the civil rights movement”. Her actions inspired nationwide efforts to end racial segregation and equality for all.
Today we remember and honor the 2,403 service members and United States citizens who were killed in the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii 79 years ago today. Though most of the survivors of the attack on Pearl Harbor and those who fought in World War II are no longer with us, we will always remember their courage and devotion to our country. #PearlHarbor
To recognize Universal Human Rights Month, each week we will be highlighting monumental people in history who have helped pave the way to ensure that all humans have universal rights. Eleanor Roosevelt served as the U.S. delegate to the United Nations General Assembly. She was also the first chairperson of the UN Human Rights Commission in 1946 and she was instrumental in drafting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This document was created as a way to properly define what human rights would be protected universally.

As we head into the last full week of November, we are feeling very thankful for our customers, our employees, and for the challenges this year has brought us because it has helped us to find the gratitude in the little things. Closing out the last week of #NationalGratitudeMonth, we are hearing from Kasandra R, a Senior Collections Manager, on how she practices gratitude in her life. We encourage you to take these practices that were shared and incorporate them into your daily lives beyond this month.
As we near the end of November, we reflect on all the gratitude we've shared as an organization throughout National Gratitude Month and the differences we've made. Tune in to hear from members of our executive team and the members of our DriveTime Family about what gratitude means to them, and take some time to think about what gratitude means to YOU! #NationalGratitudeMonth #LifeatDriveTime
