When Georgia-Pacific bought the pulp and paper mill in Brewton, Alabama, in 2007, it was struggling to maintain its competitive position. The mill’s recovery boilers, crucial to keeping the mill operational, had been in service since 1957 and 1964. Its ”newest” equipment was last installed in the ‘80s. Inefficient, unreliable, subject to frequent unplanned events and outages, the mill was in need of drastic changes to operate successfully in the long-term. But that’s all changed.
Sarah Harrison and Emma Jordan are breaking down barriers as heavy equipment operators at our quarry in Fort Dodge, Iowa. While working in a traditionally male-dominated role, they have excelled and added an incredible amount of value to their team.
