Celebrating #blackhistorymonth together. “My grandfather, William Bullock, made an important impression in my life. He was a child of parents who were slaves. He taught me to work hard and make him proud. Black History is important to me because all people want freedom, equality and justice.” —LaRon, Merchandising Basics | IKEA Emmeryville, CA
Celebrating #blackhistorymonth together | “Black History is important to me. It shows the strength of our culture, confidence you stand tall and aim high for what you believe in. Throughout the years my people have endured many challenges, but our high self-esteem overpowers all of the negative bureaucracy! If I could create a holiday to celebrate an African American public figure, I would create a Holiday for Maya Angelou. Her creative poetry and the beautiful creation of words were like silk in her readings! They always told a story and, in such a negative world we live in, poetry is so needed! The Maya Angelou Poetry Day! — Deloria, Active Selling | IKEA Emmeryville, CA
As we celebrate #blackhistorymonth — together acknowledging African American contributions to our society — we asked our co-workers from Elizabeth, NY for a statement on how those contributions have inspired them and or shaped their lives. (L to R) Ariel - "Never be limited by other peoples, limited imaginations." Ricky – “Black people teach me every day. Anyone who has been through a struggle in life and continues with a positive lifestyle inspires me." Deidra - "To understand me, you got to understand my lifestyle."
The world is changing. And a new era requires a new way of leading. Last week, approximately 200 of our IKEA leaders — from across the US and all business areas — attended the first of three summits, “Leading in a New Era”. Country Retail Manager Javier Quiñones kicked off the meeting in Phoenix, Arizona.
Happy National Love Your Pet Day, from our pets to yours!
For 35 years, IKEA restaurant visitors have enjoyed the iconic Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam. Soon a new variation will be added to the family — one that tastes and looks like a traditional meatball but is made with plant-based alternative proteins.
In FY19, IKEA had over $5B total sales, 78.3M visitors to our stores and 342.6M visitors online in the U.S. alone. Thank you to our co-workers, partners, customers and communities for our strong growth and performance. Learn more:
Celebrating #blackhistorymonth together. Meet Jordan and learn what it means to him. "I never wait until February to celebrate Black History Month, every month is Black History Month for me. Every day, I am reminded of the struggles and sacrifices my people made for me to be in the position I am in today. I have the right to vote, the right to a higher education, and the right to constitutional freedoms. Malcolm X is definitely someone who inspires me to be who I am every day. As a young kid, I would get my grandfather's gigantic bifocals, and recite Malcolm X's speeches verbatim; speeches filled with passion and intensity about equality, justice, by any means necessary."
