For more than 13 years we have been proud to run the MLK Scholars Program across Boston, built on the inspirational values and legacy of its namesake, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Each year we’ve sponsored the employment of over 600 Boston high-school students at dozens of local non-profit organizations, making it one of the largest summer job programs of its kind in the U.S. The scholars join a paid 6-7-week summer internship where we help them develop the skills, networks and connections they’ll need to be successful. This summer, we went virtual! Many of our non-profit partners were able to pivot their programs to continue safe, quality opportunities for the scholars. In addition, we were glad to host 36 scholars and rehire 4 college interns who were former MLK Scholars, who participated in virtual department work, career exploration seminars, and other workshops focused on career development. As we continue to build a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive workspace, our MLK Scholars Program is a strong pipeline of talent joining our company.

Above and beyond. That’s how James Dryden, a client account representative in Toronto, would describe his start at John Hancock. Although overwhelmed before starting his role, James’ virtual experience with us had a great start. He was very impressed with how seamlessly the company transitioned, and the level of ease it was to effectively work from home. Want to work for a company that goes above and beyond?
