The holiday season is about spreading joy, and we embodied that in our stores recently by surprising hundreds of customers and team members with thousands of dollars in shopping sprees during our 10th annual Very Merry Meijer event. Meijer leaders surprised one customer with a $1,000 shopping spree and two team members with $200 gift cards in each of our 267 stores across the Midwest. Read more: https://bit.ly/3GL80jk
We did it! Thanks to our customers this Thanksgiving season, we will be providing 4 million meals to those in need across the Midwest through our Meijer Simply Give program. We announced our third annual Meijer Team Gives fall program, which empowered our team members to grant $3 million in surprise donations to nearly 500 nonprofits within their communities. Each store, distribution and supply chain facility, and Meijer Team Member Resource Group was given $10,000 to donate to one nonprofit, or $5,000 to donate to two nonprofits. In support of Military Family Appreciation month this November, we’re proud to offer our virtual “Roadmap to Retail” event on Nov. 7-8 for veteran-owned businesses to showcase their products and services for Meijer merchants to consider having on stores shelves. Led by our Supplier Inclusion team, in partnership with mVets, the Meijer Team Member Resource Group for veterans, active military members, and their families, we look forward to building relationships with more veteran-owned suppliers to expand our veteran-owned product offerings in categories storewide. We are proud to partner with the Greater Lansing Food Bank Garden Project in keeping seed packets out of landfills and giving them new life for our communities. Garden Project supports nearly 90 community gardens and more than 500 income-eligible home gardeners within the mid-Michigan area, cultivating just over 1 million pounds of food throughout the season, equating to about 100,000 meals, annually. When a new Meijer store broke ground in Westfield, Ind. in 2020, Student Impact of Westfield Executive Director Danyele Easterhaus was amazed to get a call inquiring about how the store could partner with her organization. Since then, those team members voted to give their Meijer Team Gives donation to Student Impact twice, once with a $10,000 check and again with a $5,000 check. Our Escanaba and Marquette stores spoke loud and clear when they both unknowingly chose Upper Peninsula Honor Flight for their Meijer Team Gives spring donation, based on votes in their respective stores. U.P. Honor Flight is an organization honoring America’s veterans by transporting them to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at the memorials that stand in their honor at no cost to the veterans.
