Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico in September 2017, and caused lasting devastation that has greatly impacted the residents and communities. As a result of the storm, the island lost power and many had near or total loss of their homes, including four of our employees. After the storm, Schnitzer Steel and our employees began to work quickly to support the communities and each other. We supported the communities through accepting hurricane debris once our yards were operational. The company aided our employees by providing essential resources. This included sending a shipping container loaded with emergency supplies, food and clothing. In addition, the company provided financial support in grant money to employees who had experienced losses. Our employees in Puerto Rico are thankful for the help and support Schnitzer Steel provided for the recovery from Hurricane Maria and have been the first to offer assistance to those suffering through the devastation brought by Hurricane Michael. We are proud of our sense of community.

The OFB collects food from various sources and distributes it through a network of 21 Regional Food Banks and approximately 1,200 food assistance sites serving OR and Clark County, WA. We are excited to be engaged in a multi-year partnership with the OFB which also includes a charitable giving focus and look forward to continuing our partnership.
