SSOE’s Stephen Cotton, Structural Section Manager who works in our Nashville office, recently served on the presentation review panel for the Tennessee Tech University Civil Engineering Program’s Senior Design Project course. A Tennessee Tech grad himself, Stephen has been involved with the Cookeville-based school in a mentor capacity for the past 7 years. This semester, his team presented on SSOE’s Logicore Headquarters project in Huntsville, Alabama for which we provided structural, MEP, and fire protection engineering services back in 2014. The students did a great job presenting, receiving high marks for their diligent delivery. #SSOEsoutheast

A Southeast Ohio success story: Our client Kenworth Truck Company is currently in the construction phase of their 120,000 SF Chillicothe plant expansion. SSOE provided architectural, structural, civil, and MEP design services for this state-of-art paint shop addition that will reside next to the existing 502,000 SF facility that is home to Kenworth’s Class 8 truck assembly plant—a 25% increase and $140 million investment. APEG Ohio recently released this video showcasing the positive impact Kenworth has on the Southeast Ohio economy. https://youtu.be/bErVJH8Sbfg
This February, we proudly celebrate Black History Month. As an industry, we’re working toward having a proportionate number of underrepresented groups in the technical fields from which we draw. However, the dangers of implicit bias work against that goal. In honor of Black History Month, we are sharing words of wisdom from some of our employees who urge us all to proactively combat these tendencies, promote inclusion and diversity, and celebrate the achievements of African Americans every month of the year. #BlackHistoryMonth
