Did you know that each of our employees can take 8 hours of paid time off to volunteer in their communities? In the Netherlands, colleagues swapped their desks for diving goggles and jumped into the Amsterdam canals for the yearly Amsterdam City Swim. They started this initiative in 2021 and have been taking part each year since to raise awareness for ALS.
We believe in the power of giving back. Our 8 hours of paid volunteer leave helps teams take time to support causes close to their hearts, and we even match donations to employee fundraising initiatives. Some of our team members recently took on a 12-mile sponsored walk for the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Association (PSPA). A colleague with a personal connection to the disease planned the walk and put out a call for keen hikers. Thanks to the high level of interest and enthusiasm, three separate walks in Hull, Surrey and Cheshire were held, raising funds for a good cause.
We strive to live our culture of care, courage and collaboration in our communities. As a sponsor of cityCURRENT's Signature Breakfast Speaker Series, we took the chance to shine a spotlight on Samaritan's Feet International, a charity that gives shoes to Memphis children in need, with the presentation of a donation cheque at the event.
In celebration of the city’s Pride event, a team from our Hull office donned their rainbow flags and glitter to take part in the parade.
Ahead of the new academic year, several of our sites held school supply drives to help hundreds of children make a strong start to September. The collected materials have been donated to local education charities in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and the US.
We believe in investing in the future—and that starts with our interns. We’re proud to be recognized as one of Pennsylvania’s top internship programs by Pennsylvania Chamber.
In June 1950, Smith+Nephew Australia was established in Sydney. For 75 years since, providing the highest quality technology and support in Australia and New Zealand is what drives us every day. To celebrate this significant milestone we hosted a special 75 year anniversary event, inviting an athlete patient, an orthopaedic surgeon and our association partners to share with us what drives them. A heartfelt thank you to Erin Phillips OAM, Dr Justin Roe, Ms. Kerry May, and Mr. Ian Burgess - your passion was inspiring to everyone in the room.
It’s official! Construction has started at our new Advanced Wound Management Manufacturing facility in Melton, East Yorkshire. To mark the milestone, colleagues joined in with a steel signing ceremony and celebration at our nearby site in Hull. Due to open in 2027, the new facility will provide a world-class setting from which we will continue to deliver next-generation products that aim to improve the standard of care for customers around the world.
In Kuala Lumpur, we recently welcomed Beacon Hospital for a Health and Wellness Day. Glucose and Blood Pressure Tests were provided for colleagues on site, as well as tips for heart health and cancer prevention.
A team from our Hull site laced up their football boots at the weekend to take part in a 6-a-side tournament, raising funds for Hull & East Yorkshire Children's University to support young people in disadvantaged areas. Our squad even made it to the tournament’s final!
