A lead teacher is responsible for the academic, social-emotional growth and development of children in their care who are usually toddler and preschool aged children. The primary function of lead teachers is to work with parents, administrators and other teachers to improve students' experience and meet teaching objectives. Additionally, lead teachers plan, evaluate and improve the physical environment of the classroom to create opportunities that meet the changing needs of the developing child. Lead teachers can work at a preschool, daycare center or elementary school.
Almost all lead teachers hold a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a related field. A valid CPR certification is required along with 2 years' of experience in a teaching capacity and lesson planning. Successful lead teachers are friendly and passionate about child development and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
