It's ok but getting better day by day - older managers tend to resist work at home

One could telework up to two days per way. As of when I retired (2012) Region 10 typically provided the employee with a laptop computer to use at both home and the office. Since I retired, the Region 10 office has built a special shared office space for teleworkers.

The systems would not always upload or allow access. I would have to clock out and clock in after hours to ensure work was transmitted and completed.

Have to be with the agency for a year before they even contemplate letting you work from home. Once you are allowed, it's highly monitored and you must ask in advance and have your request approved on multiple levels to work from home. EPA is very much in the dark on work from home benefits.

EPA's IT contractors are terrible. It is a huge hassle to work from home. You are not really able to do it if you want to get any real work done.

Tough to connect to network to be productive. Frustrating to deal with administrative staff when they're working from home.

Best - it's extremely flexible, as long as you get 80 hours a pay period you're good.
Worst - you can never tell when people are working from home or are off, when they work from home you can't tell if they're working or not and management doesn't seem to care.

The best thing is that EPA has a number of work schedules you can choose from in addition to the flexible workplace opportunities. This works out very nice for the employees while reducing the negative environmental effects from driving. Employees also save a lot of money on gas and wear and tear on their vehicles.
