Block offers a great discount on tax preparation for the employees with a good software and choices of the type of preparation the employee can use

They have really cut it down over the past few years so it is not as good as it used to be. They also bill it as income so you have to pay taxes on it.

Friends and Family discount will give you $20 each for your family and friend.

You get to do your own tax return and not have to pay for it. Pretty skimpy as far as benefits are concerned.

Free tax preparation is available, but the benefit is "grossed up" so you pay income tax on it

Best thing about the Employee Discount is it covers 100% of the cost to prepare and file the personal income tax return for the employee, which depending on the complexity of the tax situation for the employee, could be a value of $250 - $500 or more. The worst thing is that this benefit is generally only needed once per year since you only file one tax return with the IRS per year, and due to IRS regulations, you are taxed on the cost of the return as additional income.
