I was on the high deductible plan with HSA. It served my needs just fine. I do not have much basis for comparison. I do know that insurance costs was increasing rapidly, possibly higher than rate of pay.

they only offer HDHP plans with large deductibles (as expected) and massive out of pocket maximums. if you have a catastrophic accident before you build up your HSA, be ready to go into a lot of medical debt.
