High deductible, high premiums, not very good

It seemed to be comparable with other large corporations. The costs stayed in check with the rest of the national health insurance fluctuations.

About three years ago the plan changed to a high deductible model. For an employee with a family the out-of-pocket maximum rose to $9,000 or $12,000 - depending upon which plan and monthly premium level was selected. This is the amount that MUST be paid BEFORE any real insurance coverage becomes available. There is a $3,000 or $4,000 limit for an individual, thus a single person with high expenses will be real insurance coverage once that amount has been met. But for a larger family with no individual incurring significant medical expenses this out of pocket effectively negates any real insurance benefit. Since this change was made I have seen an increase in my out-of-pocket expenses to an average of at least $8,000 per year. This year (2014), I will likely pay the entire $12,000 and only meet the individual maximum for my spouse.

horrible! very few options - for many high deductible plan only, and when we moved from "normal" plan to HD plan, the premiums stayed the same. In other words, high premiums for huge out of pocket expenses.

Reasonable for a family plan

They offer numerous plans. I came there and my information for this review is based on obtaining the SAME type of plan that I had with my prior employer. At Leidos, it cost me lower in payments with no co-pay on visits; however, I had a family deductible of $12K before insurance would start paying 80%. The way it worked is that your doctor would bill AETNA for their services, and you would pay 100% of the amount indicated that you would be responsible for. This was to count against deductible. The plan included a $1K/year health care reimbursement plan that you could submit expenses to in order to be paid from this which helped. Any RX would be paid at 100% from you and you would need to submit for reimbursement. Some items were covered at 100% such as yearly OBY/GYN visit, annual health exam for child, mammogram. I would have preferred to pay more with a co-pay in lieu of this. I was very nervous about having something happen as I would never be able to pay the medical bills. I was told this was not how it used to be. Again, this is based on an apples-to-apples comparison to what I had previously.

It recently changed to an HSA, Health Spending Account.

The high deductible plan really stinks especially when you have prescriptions, and especially when the Job security is non-existent.

deductibles are too high! I will not be able to meet the deductible in a year unless i have a catastrophic event. So i feel like i dont have a benefit,
