Training consists of a 2 hour class with about a dozen attendees. It is essentially a powerpoint slideshow with some video clips, and some talking, and Q&A. A new driver will ride with a trainer for their first day. The trainer will drive the first half, the trainee the second. This will also be an evaluation of driving skill, and new drivers can be washed out at this stage if they cannot drive safely and follow instructions. In reality, this is really a single pass through a relatively complex set of tasks. A typical drive will include as many as 18 pages covering over 100 details. Although this is mostly self-explanatory, the driver has to do much of this work while driving, and it can take a while to catch on to the terminology. Does the EPB stick or bind? That's an Electronic Parking Brake. Is the EVIC clear and readable in direct sunlight? Electronic Vehicle Information Center, they mean the gauges. The good news is... it is expected that the first few weeks will not be perfect, and there are no penalties for making mistakes unless it becomes chronic or a safety issue.
