TP used a hilariously complex scheme to disqualify those who attained a performance bonus from receiving it. By the time one received the bonus, there was no connection to the behaviors which earned it in the first place.

The bonus is paid as a bonus every other month which means a much higher tax bracket (30%). If you're single with no deductions you could actually bring home less than your regular salary.
