Once again, you don't realize how good it was, until you retire and see what your peers have to deal with. You are required to have a plan of $400,000, plus your family get $100k payment immediately upon your death, in addition to your plan. Then there are the other benefits.

SGLI is a good back up for service members and since the population insured is relatively young, the price is very reasonable.

You pay for it, but I beleive mind was &30 for $400,000 worth of coverage. Worst money I ever spent, but that's a personal factor of having had a fairly safe job, no kids, no wife, and honestly nobody that would've needed the money if I did die.

For only $27 a month members get $400,000 and less than $10 our spouses get $100,000. Since most Deployable people can't get life insurance, this is helpful.
