I like both names, I’d probably go 50/50 on each because they are both really fundamental to the payment rails globally. Both trade fairly on a forward multiple.
Paypal and square both act as very important merchant acquirers for AXP/V/MC, they both have their hands on pretty much any aspect of the payment process other then the issuer/network side.
Anyone who says Paypal is dead doesn’t work in payments. They are a fundamental part of the sector, its not exactly what you think of when you imagine paypal which is the money transfer platform its everything else they do which is important.
The drawbacks though, paypal’s ceo is a bit of an unknown entity and the company is going through a pretty major internal turn around strategy which has been hit or miss. Square on the other hand is run by Jack Dorsey who is a bit eccentric for my liking, crypto exposure which is a pro or con depending and the fact that dorsey bought tidal for $300m just because he wanted to hangout with Jay-Z.
Tldr: I like them, I think they trade at fair valuations in an inflated market

What do we think PayPals competitive advantages are and what switching costs are in the industry?
How strong is their enterprise sales team?
Curious as it’s on my watchlist but I don’t know the payments industry.

The reason I'm long on PayPal is because of their market share in the BNPL space and the ability to capitalize on name recognition as well as being an early player in the space. They have established themselves as a leader and have captured younger credit seekers that will likely grow financially with them
