I was excited because the interview was scheduled within about a week after I submitted my application and skills test. The recruiter seemed very interested in my background until I started discussing the full scope of my years of experience and she very evidently started to add them together. I have the benefit of looking years younger than I actually am - which if you look at the roster of employees at Akuna, the vast majority are clearly under 30. Once the recruiter started realizing that I’m closer to the 40 mark because of my years of experience, her interest and enthusiasm immediately changed. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt because there are many reasons why someone may not be the best fit for a company but it was very clear this is when her attitude changed towards me. The interview ended very shortly after that and I received a rejection the next business day. Age discrimination seems to be a real, possible issue here.
