Had a weirdly racist interaction with a recruiter and did not end up interviewing - Recruiter reached out to me on Sunday to schedule an interview since she thought my background experience was a good fit -> Responded on Monday with availability -> Did not hear back so reached back out on Wednesday ->
Instead of scheduling time with me, the recruiter reached back out within minutes asking about my work authorization. I am a US citizen, but of Indian origin. It was an odd question especially since this could be found on my application if she needed to know. I responded that I was authorized to work in the US and did not need sponsorship. She responds within minutes specifically asking if I'm a US citizen to which I respond I am. I never hear back from her and got a generic rejection a few days later. I'm sure this wouldn't have been something that came up if I wasn't of Indian origin. Either way, it was odd and gave off the impression that they would rather move forward with someone where there was not ambiguity with citizenship.
