      Manager In Training (MIT) Interview

      Aug 8, 2013
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch

      Interview

I was "recruited" this past May while shopping in A&F by a manager and given a card, encouraged to apply online. Needing a job, I did so, and promptly received a call for an interview. I went to the group interview with 11 other people, and received a call a few days later asking me to join the team as a "model" (what they call their sales associates) as well as if I was interested in full-time work, since I had just graduated college. Of course, needing full-time work, I agreed. Over the three weeks it took for me to meet up with the District Manager, the Store Manager really made me feel incredibly confident, telling me that I was perfect for the position. I was basically made to feel as if the interview was "just a formality." When I had the interview, it went really well! I was wearing my abercrombie best and I thought everything was going great, and the DM told me that he would be in contact "either way" by the end of the week. The end of the week came. No contact. I reached out to the store manager, who told me that something crazy had happened in the district that week, which is likely why the DM had forgotten to contact me. He said that he heard my interview had gone really well and the DM "had nothing but nice things to say about me." I waited until a week after the interview, and called the DM myself. He didn't pick up the phone, so I left a voicemail. Within ten minutes, he sent me an email saying he would "be reaching out to me the next day" to discuss the opportunities available to me. I, of course, was excited, thinking this meant that I had the job. So, I expected a phone call the next day. No phone call. I emailed the DM that night around 9pm to make sure he had not had any difficulty contacting me. That next day I received a generic rejection email that neither applied to my situation nor answered any questions that I had asked in the previous email. The disrespect for my time and the lack of professionalism on nearly all counts with this DM seems to match up with other interview accounts I have read here.
